Diversity and Injustice in Current Events and Science (DICES) Journal Club: Beyond Borders- International Scientists and Innovation RSVP
Join the GSBS Diversity Interest Group (DIG) and our co-host the UMMS Postdoctoral Association (UMPA) for the fourth installment of our new Journal Club Series, DICES--Diversity and Injustice in Current Events and Science. Changes in immigration policy over the last few years have affected our international scientist community and could have a lasting negative impact on scientific innovation. To promote a welcoming space for everybody to share knowledge and learn from each other at UMMS, DIG and UMPA are focusing this fourth Journal Club discussion on Beyond Borders: International Scientists and Innovation.

This will be a trainee-led journal club, open to the broader UMMS community. Specifically, our goals are to:
1. Explore the contribution of international scientists to US scientific innovation and discuss the resources available at UMMS for international scientists
2. Provide awareness of the challenges that international scientists face by hearing from former and current members of the UMMS community
3. Discuss advocacy work in international scientist affairs for all members of UMMS

When: Thursday, March 25th @ 5-6:15pm (followed by trainee-specific time with our guests)
Where: Zoom! RSVP for details

We are pleased to announce Aaron Blumberg, Esq. as our guest speaker! Aaron Blumberg is a Partner at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy’s Miami office, where he advises a diverse client base, from investors and entrepreneurs to colleges and universities to multinational companies, on U.S. immigration law. The articles we will be discussing during this journal club are attached to DIG emails regarding this event. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email DIGgsbs@umassmed.edu.

*Please note: The goal of our DICES Journal Club Series is to generate dialogue in a welcoming, non-combative, and respectful environment. We promote the sharing of knowledge and greater understanding of all DICES-related topics amongst our UMMS community. This event is not intended to be an informational session on immigration-related policies, but a discussion to learn about and advocate for social justice issues and policies related to science immigration. The content of this event should not be relied upon for legal advice in any particular circumstance or situation.  The information presented may not reflect the most current legal developments. An attorney should be contacted for advice on specific legal issues. Participants of this event may share their experiences navigating career transitions on a visa, but this event is not intended to provide advice on career options based on visa status or immigration-related policies.
