The Motion Picture Technical High School is committed to creating an inclusive pathway to careers in the Film & Television Industries. We passionately champion students from all walks of life, with a special emphasis on uplifting those from BIPOC communities in NYC. OVERVIEW:
The Motion Picture Technical High School is a game-changing addition to New York City's educational landscape. Opening September 2024 in Northern Queens, Motion Picture Tech is a trailblazing CTE and student pathways program set to revolutionize the film and television industry's talent pipeline. In collaboration with the Roybal School of Film and Television Fund, Motion Picture Tech is dedicated to forging a more inclusive and equitable future for the world of film and television production. Our mission centers on creating opportunities for all students with a passion for below-the-line production careers. Our carefully crafted curriculum provides comprehensive training in both the technical and creative facets of the industry, ensuring our students are primed for both college and career success. From cinematography to editing, sound design to set construction, and special effects to post-production, we equip our students with hands-on experience, state-of-the-art technology, and invaluable industry connections to excel in these essential roles. Located in the heart of Northern Queens, Motion Picture Tech enjoys close proximity to the bustling film and television industry of New York City. This geographic advantage grants our students unparalleled access to mentoring from industry professionals, coveted work-based learning internships, and an immersive learning environment that offers early college credit and credentials, mirroring real-world industry demands.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO CONSIDER:
  • New building Q472 is opening at 53-16 Northern Boulevard in District 30 for the 2025-2026 school year (Process to approve, shared publicly)
  • NYCPS expects to issue a proposal for Motion Picture Tech High School to be sited at Q472 long-term, which will require approval by the Panel for Education Policy
  • NYCPS is working to identify temporary space in Northern Queens to open and incubate the ninth grade for the 2024-2025 school year and will have more information to share soon.

Ed. Opt. programs admit students across all academic levels. Students are grouped into Low, Middle, and High categories based on a composite of their academic data. One-third of offers are made to students in each category.

  • Friday, December 1, 2023: High School Application Closes
  • Thursday, March 7, 2024: High School Offer Release
