ECo emergency relief fund

Graduate students and postdocs  with an ECo advisor may request funds for an emergency, or for unanticipated and compelling circumstance that jeopardizes their ability to successfully continue in their program of study.

We especially aim for this program to leverage other relief programs on campus, as we recognize many circumstances require more support than any single program can provide. We strongly encourage students to contact the Dean of Students office to obtain their support in applying for other University relief funds. They can also connect students with other forms of support such as food relief and budgeting consultations. ECo relief funds will be provided in the form of a non-working fellowship or scholarship, and typically will range from $100 to $1,000 depending on the need and availability of funds.

To ensure a rapid response, the ECo department head (pswarren@umass.edu) and the ECo Graduate Program Director (gpd@eco.umass.edu) are automatically notified when you submit this form. If you do not hear a response from someone in 48 hours, please feel free to contact us directly.

NOTE: If you have questions about tax consequences of these funds, we recommend contacting the Bursar's office.
