BUS RIDER GUIDELINES - 2022/2023

The DeKalb County School District offers bus transportation service for our students. The school buses are used for transporting students on field trips as well as to and from school.

It is important that all of our students are aware of the expectations of riding our buses. Please go over the following with your child.

Conduct on the Bus — The school bus is an extension of the classroom and discipline shall be maintained to ensure safety. A student must:

* Remain seated while bus is in motion

* Sit in assigned seat

* Not throw objects in the bus or out of the bus windows

* Not mark, scratch, tear, write on or otherwise damage seats or any other part of the bus

* Not threaten, bully, harass, or tease other students

* Not operate emergency doors, roof hatches and/or exit controls except in emergency situations or as directed by the driver

* Face forward during the duration of the trip and keep their feet out of the aisle

* Keep hands to oneself and do not touch the belongings of other students

* Refrain from yelling, and loud talking

* Speak in normal conversation so as not to distract the driver

* Be respectful of the driver

* Conform to all other school rules while riding the school buses.

Gross Misconduct

Gross misconduct that endangers the safety of others or that destroys District property will not be permitted. This may result in immediate bus suspension by the School Principal. Examples of gross misconduct include, but are not limited to, fighting, opening emergency doors or windows (except for emergencies), abusive language, hanging any part of the body out of the bus window, throwing objects, breaking windows, or cutting seats. Any of these infractions may be cause for temporary or permanent suspension of bus riding privileges.
