We are looking for some volunteer faculty and staff to host a small group of DePaul international students for a meal the weekend of April 22 & 23, 2023.
- We’d prefer to have a minimum of two students being hosted in one home;
- Ideally hosts will be able to come pick the students up from the Loop or Lincoln Park Campus or are close (within 1 mile) to public transportation.
- If students will need to take public transportation to your home, please try to plan your meal so they are not traveling at night later than 8pm.
If you are able and willing, please complete this form by April 7th, so we know how many students we can recruit to the program and have time to make matches according to food and pet allergies and restrictions.MEAL with DePaul provides international students and scholars a chance to learn about the diversity of U.S. food and culture by visiting a DePaul faculty or staff member’s home.
Faculty and staff members that apply to be host volunteers will provide a meal for 2-6 students and scholars. Host volunteers can either be married, single, with or without children. You may host with friends or colleagues or on your own. Ideally, host volunteers will live within walking distance of a CTA/METRA station. Hosts will coordinate with students and scholars prior to dinner to confirm the exact time and how to travel.
Please Note: If you are not within walking distance of a CTA or Metra stop, you should plan to pick-up the students and scholars at an agreed upon location. In this case, you will need to request DePaul driver certification. You can read the driver policy online. Please contact Katie Abma (kabma@depaul.edu) for more information about starting this process.
At this time we do not have funding to reimburse hosts for the costs of food, and we appreciate the generosity of our hosts greatly.
