MILE: More Inclusive Learning Environments

Spring 2023 MILE Student Advisors

MILE = More Inclusive Learning Environments

MILE Conversations

MILE Student Advisors function as consultants to help Davidson faculty/staff members gain information and make decisions informed by student experiences, observations, and feedback, with regard to learning, campus climate, and inclusivity.  Since Spring 2021, MILE Student Advisors have hosted conversations with faculty and staff members to highlight student experiences and offer recommendations.  MILE conversations follow community guidelines to encourage confidential and welcoming opportunities to share perspectives (i.e., stories stay and lessons leave).  The Spring 2023 MILE Student Advisors include Josie Hovis ’23 (Latin American Studies), Anastasia Korre ’24 (Biology/Sociology), Emily Williams ’24 (Biology), Jacob Parker ’24 (Physics/Studio Art), Laila Robinson ’24 (Psychology/Public Health), Ted Pasquette ’24 (Chemistry), Dagi Lulseged ’25 (Chemistry/Genomics), Meghan Sood ’25 (Chemistry/Music), and Shreya Sharm ’25 (Psychology).

MILE Student-Faculty Partnerships

FIRST Action Team students suggested MILE partnerships, which were piloted in Fall 2019, Spring 2020, and Spring 2022 as semester-long, student-faculty partnerships modeled after Bryn Mawr’s Students as Learners and Teachers (SaLT).  Seven MILE students partnered with seven faculty members in BIO, CHE, PHY, and ENV courses to offer crucial feedback to develop more inclusive and equitable learning environments.
