Undead Age #2

Damage in an Undead Age

Rate this book
It's what you don't see coming that kills you.

Safely hidden from San Jose’s City Council, Miranda Tucci has begun to believe that life can be good again. Reunited with Mario, and accompanied by her best friend Father Doug Michel, she has undertaken a hazardous journey to the Pacific Northwest. There, the trio of friends hope to recreate the vaccine for the zombie virus.

But danger still lurks in what used to be civilization, and hearts can still be broken. If Miranda lowers her guard enough to nurture a small, soft dream, can she risk losing it without losing herself? And with the ravenous undead always in pursuit, can she stay alive long enough to see it come true?

"A.M. Geever's Damage in an Undead Age is a feast of undead horrors and broiling post-apocalyptic affairs of the heart... (it) will turn you on, raise your blood pressure, and emotionally gut you like a fish."
-- Bookbub Reviewer

"This series is completely original and it turns the genre on its head with a bit of a nudge back towards the horror end of the spectrum. Honestly, it's brutal in parts and difficult to read at times....and it's completely brilliant."

I enjoy stories of survival in extraordinary circumstances. It's not so much the incident that throws people into survival situations that piques my interest but how they react to it. Why brings out the best and the worst of human nature? Do people always break good or bad, or is it a bit of both? Since zombies can be anything - metaphors, monsters, even jokes - the possibilities for exploring these questions are endless.

As a native Pittsburgher and fan of George Romero films, perhaps it was inevitable that the hours-long NIGHT OF THE LIVING/DAWN OF THE DEAD postmortems that my brothers and I conducted after each viewing led to this novel. Despite all this I am woefully unprepared for the zombie apocalypse. But the idea I might become a zombie because my car runs out of gas continues to get me to the gas station when I’d rather not bother.

It's easy to forget that zombie apocalypse books are a sub-genre of horror. Over the years they have fallen into a predictable pattern and when you pick one up you can check off all the tropes.

Escape the city - check
Visit Walmart - check
Build a fort - check
Battle a zombie horde - check

Not so here. This series is completely original and it turns the genre on its head with a bit of a nudge back towards the horror end of the spectrum.

Honestly, it's brutal in parts and difficult to read at times....and it's completely brilliant. Can't wait for book 3!

A book about a zombie virus pandemic in the middle of a virus pandemic? Hits differently! I enjoyed reading this book despite the creepy parallels to our real lives. I love the twists and turns of events in this book series. The plot is hardly predictable. Excited to read the third book!

What I Loved:
I loved the adventure that Damage in an Undead Age took me on! I enjoyed the new characters that were introduced and the twists created by their addition to the story! What I loved the most though, was the emotional journey that I wasn’t expecting. It was beautifully woven into the zombie apocalypse and left me unable to put the book down.

My Synopsis:
Damage in an Undead Age picks up just after book 1, Love in an Undead Age. The group has escaped on a boat and is healing from their injuries. They have Jeremiah, the crazy man that is immune to zombies, safely secured as they sail to their next destination in hopes of finding help to create a vaccine.

Unfortunately, help isn’t there and they must move on. Their next stop does have a lab where they can set up to start working on the vaccine. It turns out that they are not alone though. They’ll soon discover zombies aren’t the only dangerous thing around them.

How I Felt:
Damage in an Undead Age was so much more than a post-apocalyptic zombie story! The characters each have their own internal struggles that created such an emotional roller-coaster!

The plot was so exciting! It had a lot of zombie action, but also had this storyline that had romance and heartbreak mixed in. I was so impressed with A.M. Geever’s ability to write this beautiful story that had me gripped from page one!

The characters feel so real. The flaws that were added to each character gave them depth and made me connect to them. Miranda has struggles that she continues to work to overcome, and in the middle of that, she is hit with new events in her life that change everything she thought she knew about herself. I really enjoyed her character arc.

We are also introduced to a new character, Skye, and I loved her. I was in love with her romance storyline. It felt just right and had a lovely build-up.

Overall, I was blown away by this story. I loved every word on every page. I really hope there is a third book because this story has so much more to tell!

Content Warnings:
Abortion, pregnancy and loss, rape, abuse, self-harm through cutting, use of C-word in one instance.

To Read or Not To Read:
I would recommend Damage in an Undead Age to readers that enjoy a story about zombies, but also a story following a character’s emotional journey.

If you haven’t read the first book in this series, Love in an Undead Age, I highly recommend that you start there. It provides a ton of backstory (and it’s a great book)!

I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.

My full review of this book will post to my blog on 6/12/20. All of my reviews can be found at https://shejustlovesbooks.com/all-boo...

Is book 3 of this series ready yet?? Damage in an Undead Age will definitely leave you hungry for more. In all honesty, I’m really not a zombie thriller kind of gal, but A.M. Geever has me hooked (and the steamy scenes certainly don’t hurt). Her characters are interesting and dynamic. I found myself cheering for them and mourning with them. The relationships between the characters are ever evolving and I feel invested in finding out how it all works out for each of them in the end. I especially love Geever’s descriptions of the story setting, as I’ve lived and worked near some of the places in this book, and I felt her imagery really brought it to life. There was a nice balance of suspense and stability, just enough to almost make you forget that the sh*t is likely to hit the fan again at any moment. I may not be jumping on the bandwagon for all zombie lit, but I’m definitely here for this series!

Requisite disclaimer: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I want to thank A. M. Geever for sending me an ARC for review. The first thought that came to mind after finishing the book was WOW, just wow! I need more.

In all honestly, it took me a little bit to get into the first book, but I once I did I just couldn’t stop reading and then I patiently waited for book 2! Damage in an Undead Age did not disappoint and I was sucked in from the start.

I love a bad ass heroine and A. M. Geever definitely delivers with Miranda! This series is the perfect combo of drama, zombies and LOVE! I don’t want to give anything away so no spoilers but you will 100% feel part of their group.

Stay tuned, more to come as I get my thoughts together. Run, don’t walk to your Kindle and download this book ASAP!

When I finished Love in an undead age I could not wait to read the next one. Damage does not disappoint. Fast paced, great zombie action and emotional parts that I really was not expecting.

I love how we see a completely different side to Miranda, which has shown a whole new softer and vulnerable side to her, I still think Mario is a dick for walking out on his family, but I think that's what makes the charctors work so well.

Another great book from A. M Geever.
Would love to read the next in the series

Oh my gosh I loved this book! From the first page I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next. It’s fast paced, the plot is exciting, and the zombie action is incredible! I loved the characters and the way they are written they just come alive on the pages. The world building is wonderfully written. An absolutely fantastic story from beginning to end and one I highly recommend.

I loved book 1 and was super excited to read this 2nd entry. Anne spins a tale with a strong female lead, but also plenty of other interesting characters. I love the action, the love, the hate, anger, lust, laughter and nail-biting-filled moments. And the zombies are super good too. Read book 1 if you haven't and then get on this. You'll enjoy it.

Ok. I finished this yesterday and I'm still trying to piece it together. I just can't stop thinking about it!!!

I enjoyed this one so much more than the first book! I was hooked from the beginning.

I am NOT, however, a fan of how it ended. Oh my God, I didn't want it to end!

I need more!!!

Where to start...I’m thinking 5 million stars…

I have to start with thanking A.M. Geever for providing me with an ARC for free in exchange for an honest review. Thank you sooooooo muuuuuch. I can’t even begin to describe how happy and excited and honored I am for this opportunity.

Miranda Tucci and her friends are back in this fantastic sequel. I was literally squealing with joy when I received and downloaded the book. I went through every possible feeling while reading this book. I was happy, I was excited than I felt sad just to laugh the next moment and went back to being angry and then back to happy and on and on and on. Emotional rollercoaster. I felt dizzy with all these emotions I was having.
If you haven’t read Love in an Undead Age, I recommend you stop whatever you’re reading now and start reading it. I really doesn’t matter if you don’t like zombies or post-apocalyptic stories you will love A.M Geever’s book because it is so much more than just a book about zombies. Romance, action, betrayal, more action, heartbreak and then some more action. I promise you will love every word of the 2 books.

It’s not easy to talk about this book without giving anything away...the book’s official description reveals almost nothing about what to expect so I’m not going go give anything away.

So Miranda, Mario and Doug are back and trying to recreate the vaccine for the zombie virus. They succeeded to run from the San Jose City Council but of course their fight is far from over. But Miranda is full of hope that her life with Mario could be good and they can have a happy life. And then something unexpected happens which makes Miranda reconsider all her past and future choices.

Not much, right? I know but saying more ruin the surprises and the fun of finding it out for yourself, believe me.

A.M. Geever sure knows how to spin a tale. A tale which keeps you entertained and guessing through the whole book. Miranda is still sassy and determined and heads into every dodgy situation she can damn the consequences. She keeps getting more angry, more insecure, more reserved but she’s gone through seven hells so her change for the worst can be understood. I must confess I was rather angry with her from time to time because of the things she does and says. Her character development is fascinating though. Her anger controls her and that has immense consequences and she has to live with them.

There are lots of death and killing and blood in this book but there is humour and friendship and love too. I’m amazed by Geever’s way with words. She makes you feel included in the story, like you are there in the story, fighting beside them, laughing with them, crying with them. The story flows so nicely, the characters feel so real, so alive that you can’t help but turn the pages and read well into the night because you need to know what happens next.

And the romance in the book? Epic. Love you want to have for yourself. The world went to hell, you or your friends could die anytime but love is all around. This book is as much about love as is about killing zombies.

I highly recommend Damage in an Undead Age and I hope my review might convince you that you need to read this book.

Miranda has a tough life. She is a bad ass, but even Miranda is finding things a little challenging shall we say. And why can't people just get along? Don't they have enough trouble without all these blasted zombies snapping at their ankles? She has a great bunch of friends, really comrades in the intense struggle to survive, but events really put them to the test.

This was a fun, albeit, harrowing at times read. Very much unpredictable. Well except that you can kind of predict that something terrible is going to happen. And pretty soon. Of course that is what I am here for. I have to admit that there is a particularly crushing moment during a battle that threw me for a loop. Sorry. Can't say more, but I was shocked! It is just fiction, but damn. And again, isn't that why I am reading this crazy book.

Well done again A.M. Geever. This was a great book and I am very much looking forward to the undoubtedly exciting conclusion of the trilogy.

A.M. Geever’s Damage in an Undead Age, is a sumptuous repast of undead horrors and broiling post-apocalyptic affairs of the heart.

The ass-kicking-organic-farming-revolutionary-catholic-girl, Miranda Tucci, is back. She is a fascinating, frustrating, and realistic protagonist. The authenticity of her complicated reactions make Geever’s world all the more terrifying.

Damage in and Undead Age will arouse you, raise your blood pressure, and gut you like a fish. Sit back and observe the zombies gorging on your emotional entrails as you eagerly await the sequel.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In my top 3 favorite zombie series

The story was woven so perfectly that I didn't want it to end. I love Miri, despite her flaws. Everything about this book is so well thought-out and fits together perfectly. This series is one that I will continue to reread, I love it so much. I can't wait for the next book!

We read about the inhuman to learn about the human. This sequel accomplishes both admirably. I enjoyed the thriller aspect of this book just as much as the human drama! Bravo!

The last third part of the second book ruined it for me

It was good and then you get to the end and I was disappointed in the main character that I completely lost interest. The ending was very disappointing to me. How do you unloved someone so soon and be so selfish about it? The end of the book is just this girl feeling sorry, cold, distant, angry and just plain mean. I'm disappointed I spent all these hours reading the first and second book for this ending. Ugh.

A.M. Geever's Undead Age Series is a unique spin on living in a post-apocalyptic world. Her writing is fresh and visceral. She uses tense and close point-of-view in her stories in ways that bring me into the story. The reader experiences events in real-time, and the result is addictive. I read Love in an Undead Age and followed with this one. It did not disappoint!

Good but...

I feel like the Miranda/ Mario disconnect is kind of annoying. I get it considering what happened, but you'd think she'd realize not to take any time for granted in that kind of a world. After the angst of the first book, that part was pretty disappointing. I'll probably hang in there for the next one and hope she gets her shit together.

Readers’ Comments
“This is a character-led, post-apocalyptic novel with an unforgettable setting and larger than life characters. Although there's plenty happening all of the time, the author is not frightened of mixing it up a little with strong character development throughout.” Male reader, aged 49
“You get what it says on the tin (or, in this case, the cover). This is a zombie novel and, surprise, surprise, it's full of them. And that’s why it’s so good. Also, the protagonist, Miranda, is strong-willed and interesting to follow. I liked her instantly. This is not high level literature, but if you enjoy fast-paced adventure packed full of twists and turns with everything to play for, this is for you.” Female reader, aged 43
“I'm a big fan of all things zombie so this was perfect for me. This is a wonderful set of books. I have read all three including the third, Reckoning in an Undead Age. I think these novels would make a fantastic film. There's so much suspense in them and I think any fantasy reader will find a lot to enjoy.” Male reader, aged 27

To Sum It Up:
‘A fast paced, post-apocalyptic zombie fest. A FINALIST and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards

Damage in an Undead Age starts out with a blast and with lots of zombie killing. Damage in an Undead Age was so intense it kept me on the edge of my seat not able to turn the pages as fast as I would have liked. The zombie action just kept on coming page after page.

I didn’t want to stop reading. Guess what I didn’t. Well, not until the last page was read. I am now chomping at the bit for the next book in the Undead Age book three Love in an Undead Age.

I fell in love with the Undead Age series the moment I picked up the first book Love in an Undead Age and began reading. I fell in love with all the characters from the moment they appeared in the story.

Damage in an Undead Age is an amazing story about zombies. I liked that they had a cure for the zombie virus from the beginning. The is only one problem though, there is more than one group of people who want it and some will do whatever it takes to get their hands on it. Even send in a herd of zombies to get it.

Miranda is trying to stay one step ahead of San Jose’s City Council. She has reunited with Mario and together with her friend Father Doug Michel they try to make their way to safety. They find a group of people who try to help them recreate the cure for the zombie virus.

Miranda is going through a very hard time and is grouchy a lot of the time. My heart broke for Miranda with everything she has been through who could blame her for the way she was acting? Miranda is one tough cookie. She never waits on anyone else to step in to help out. Miranda jumps right in with both feet causing herself injury on more than one occasion.

I highly recommend Damage in an Undead Age to all zombie fans! Grab your copy of Damage in an Undead Age today!

This is the second book in A.M. Geever’s “The Undead Age” series. Boy did this book keep me on edge wondering what was going to happen next. This is a fast paced easy to read book but not your typical zombie apocalypse story. It is so much more than that, it has love in a time of uncertainty. The story has plenty of action, they are always dodging something, zombies, other survivors, and shady characters. There is betrayal in secrets that are unearthed.
I enjoyed the writing style, the way that the characters grow, and interesting plot twists.
I highly recommend this book, “The Undead Age Series” and A.M. Geever’s other stories.

Once again Ms. Geever does not disappoint! This follow up to Love in an Undead Age was even better than the first book, in my opinion! I don't rewrite the book in my reviews, but I will say this book has old love, new love, action, adventure, stress, happiness, sadness, drama, frustration, joy, survival, ZOMBIES! This story carries on with the lives of from Love, adds more lives and stories, and even has monkeys that are a nice distraction! The book is written to draw you into this world and feel what they feel! Amazing job! I can't wait for #3! I know what I'm hoping will happen! ❤

I dislike that the sex scenes (are even in there) are so explicit and especially since the target audience starts at age 13! Also that the zombie part is not the main part.
What I like is the writing is very good and the story flows well. The characters are believable and well fleshed out ( no pun intended.) You can relate to most of the problems these people have and nothing is wrong with this part. I like this author's writing and have read the first and this book. I chose to skip over the soft porn parts then but I won't be reading any further in this series.

The second book in the undead age series was an ok read. Yet, it couldn’t hold my attention for long span and I skipped a few pages here and there, contrary to the first book. I am still contemplating, leaning towards a “No” if I should invest into the third book. The plot of the second book didn’t really motivate me to spend the amount I had paid combined for book 1 and 2 on one final book, no matter how antsy it would make me for a short while without a conclusion to the series.

If you are looking for the perfect combination of thrills and romance, look no further. I fell in love with the first book of the series, and, I am certainly just as pleased with this book as I was with the LIUA. The adventures A.M. Geever takes you on with her words are out of this world! It's thrilling, it's hot, it's everything you want in a zombie story, and more. Bravo!

Damage

I guess I missed that this was the second book in the series, and the author jumped right in so there weren't the flashbacks or reminders about the first book. Usually I complain about that, too, when authors use it to catch us up, so go figure.

Anyway, I feel like I've read quite a few zombie books but this one just didn't do it for me, maybe because it's the second book. The writing was great, but I wasn't a fan of this one.

“Damage in an Undead Age by A.M. Geever. After finishing book one I was impressed and amazed. Zombies and I aren’t really close in fact they scare me. Reading book one was a challenge and I’m so glad I read them because the plot was magnificent!!

Damage in an Undead Age was epic! I’ve just finished it and I’m still out of words. Miranda is back and that's all I need to say. Page-turner guaranteed!

Fast paced, marvelous plot and lots of zombie action. Plus more action. It was incredible!! Though the zombies still scare me like no other thing, the characters were splendid. I’m not sure which book I loved the most. Both are awesome reads! I’m really trying to avoid spoilers and it’s so hard.

A.M. Geever knows how to surprise you. If you haven’t read the books I highly recommend them!”
