Mentor Application for High School Research Experience Summer 2024
This program runs from June 7 - July 26, 2024 with optional work the week of July 1-5. Please do not complete this application if you intend to be gone for a significant portion of the program dates with no substitute mentor to take your place. Each mentor will be assigned 2 high school students that will shadow you in the lab, learn techniques and help out with your research. This could include taking data, analyzing data, taking pictures, doing background research on an area you'd like to get into, setting up a new piece of equipment, etc.. The goal is to have these students involved in projects that help the lab move forward. The students are expecting to work a minimum of 12hr per week. This is meant to be a true 'research experience' and give the students a taste of real research. Your students will have the opportunity to attend a Research Methods Seminar (taught by Science Discovery staff on Mondays) where they will learn good writing techniques, the process for creating a scientific poster, how to do a literature search, and the process for getting your work published. During the course of this program, students will be developing a poster to present at the culminating Research Poster Session on July 26, 2024.

As a token of our appreciation, we offer an $1000 grant to each mentor who takes a pair of students.
