In this month's poll for For the Record, the monthly publication of the SDCBA New Lawyer Division, we are polling our members on their experience with lawyer-targeted scams to generate future reporting on this concerning and important issue.
FOR PURPOSES OF THIS SURVEY: "SCAM" means a solicitation directed to you in your capacity as an attorney or law student intern (e.g., through your work email) that constitutes an attempt to trick you into giving money for gift cards, bogus law-related services, an ostensible prospective client, etc. A "SCAM" does not include mere spam, i.e. unsolicited automated emails selling legitimate services. A "SCAM" does not include solicitations that you have received irrespective of your role as an attorney or law student intern.
