Leadership
Four outstanding individuals have accepted leadership positions at NSU. Learn more about NSU's three new college deans and a senior vice president / associate provost—Holly Baumgarter, Ph.D.; Andrea Nevins, Ph.D.; Linda S. Rouse, O.D., M.B.A.; and Ken Dawson-Scully, Ph.D.
Innovative Approach to Business
A "perfect storm" brought H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship Dean Andrew Rosman to NSU. While working to achieve accreditation for the college, he is embracing a new model for the institution—a model steeped in the legacy and lessons of the college's namesake, Wayne Huizenga.
Supporting Paths to
Sustainable Futures
From one car dealership in southern New Jersey, to an organization that employs more than 7,000 people across the country—including South Florida—Holman Enterprises, a member of the NSU Fellows Society, is determined to give back. That determination is perfectly suited to supporting the Pathway Scholars program at NSU.
Once a Shark, Always a Shark
The Zager family has a long-standing connection to NSU’s University School (USchool). Michael Zager, founder and CEO of Z Wealth Solutions, graduated from USchool. All three of his sons—Alec, Craig, and Tyler—are Sharks as well. Those ties inspired NSU Fellows Society and 1964 Society members Michael and his wife, Lainie, to establish the Shark Scholar program to support talented students entering the Upper School.
What We're Watching
Videos to brighten your day
The NSU Halmos College of Arts and Sciences manages the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program in partnership with Broward County. The program provides for the conservation of endangered and threatened sea turtle species within Broward County. This year, we have seen a record 78 leatherback turtle nests (our previous record was 46 nests in 2012). Thank you to our donors who help with funding for sea turtle conservation, including Sea Turtle Conservancy License Plate Grant, the National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation, the Munson Foundation, and Rock The Ocean.
Terry Mularkey's
FIVE BY FIVE
University Advancement Vice President Terry Mularkey is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. Getting a “Five by Five” report meant that the signal being used to communicate over two-way radios had excellent strength and perfect clarity. Here are five stories that clearly signal NSU Shark pride.
NSU Sharks Take on the World
Two members of the NSU Swim Team dove into the competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Congratulations to Steven Aimable and Celina Marquez, who represented their home countries of Senegal and El Salvador at this year's Games.

Mental Health Counseling Program Accredited
NSU's Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) concentration in the College of Psychology's Department of Counseling has been granted eight-year accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

Safety First
Classes resume face-to-face this semester, and masks are required on campus. Students are encouraged to self-report their vaccination status on the school's Vax Max page, and all employees are mandated to be fully vaccinated by September 20. Learn more here.
Special Funding Opportunities and Updates
Dr. Gary Cohen, alumnus of NSU's Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM), was tragically killed in June during the collapse of the Champlain Towers in Surfside, Florida. In honor of Dr. Cohen's legacy, the Remembering Dr. Gary Cohen Fund has been established to award financial assistance to current students at KPCOM.
Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana as a dangerous Category 4 hurricane. It has already caused catastrophic damage along its path, triggering destruction to homes, businesses, and even hospitals. To assist alumni, faculty/staff, and students in need, consider a gift to the NSU Cares Fund, an initiative designed to aid members of the NSU community in the aftermath of tragedy. One hundred percent of donations go directly to eligible recipients.
