My proper southern belle mama might disagree, but I say I was born to be a rebel. From the second I got my hands on a pair of drumsticks, my future was sealed. I never fit in anyway, not with my rocker soul and curves that never take a day off.

But what’s a drummer without a band? Oh, that’s right. A cocktail waitress.

That is, until the chance of a lifetime falls into my lap—Unrequited needs a drummer, and I happen to have an ‘in’ with the band.

The only trouble is, Santiago Garza, Unrequited’s broody, scowly bassist, doesn’t want me in his band, which is kind of funny, considering he was the one who took my heart and stomped all over it five years ago.

My career is far more important than hurt feelings though, so Santiago can suck it up and deal. That’s what I’m doing, no matter how many times I remember the feel of his lips on mine. I won’t fall for him this time. I’m done being anyone’s second choice.

Julia Wolf is a new to me author this year and I just want to devour all of her books! She writes rockstar romances SO WELL! I enjoyed Mauve and Santiago’s second chance romance so much. Mauve is a curvy female drummer and Santiago is the bass player of a popular band who happens to need a new drummer… they go on a European tour together and their flame reignites. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series! So curious about the other band members.

To all the girls who feel they aren't enough because they aren't a size 6! You are, and you can be a ROCK GODDESS! Maeve proves in spades that not only can she rock it on the drums, but she can fight through the pervasive bull hockey that permeates our society with what is considered beauty. I truly appreciated the way all through the book when a fan or reporter called Maeve "drummer girl," she corrected them by referring to herself as "drummer." Girls can and do shred on the drums. Thank you, Julia Wolf, for giving us a girl to pull for who doesn't have a perfect body. Too often, when I read about "curvy" girls who are supposedly comfortable with themselves, they only go on to lose weight and all at once the hero "sees" them as beautiful. Excuse me, weren't they beautiful before? Maeve eats! Maeve drinks! Maeve dresses how Maeve wants to dress! Maeve loves to buy band shirts from Hot Topic! Do people say stupid stuff to her? Yes. It hurts her, but Maeve is incredibly resilient and knows her drumming speaks for itself. She's genuinely one of the gutsiest girls I've read about in a long time.

Santi and Maeve's relationship is one that has to build. Trust has to be re-won, old hurts overcome, and familial relationships need adjusting. Santi and Maeve both have to open up to each other, which is not something either is prone. But it slowly happens, and they make lovely music together. There's a reason why bass and drums are considered the heartbeat of a band. Santi and Maeve are it.

The rest of the book is filled with a delightful cast of characters I am sure we will get to know as Julia writes this world. What will happen with Mo as he grows into the man/boy/rock star? Haven, will she get her revenge on her nemesis? Will Murray and Yael ever start talking to each other and delve into what's actually going on there? And will Murray do it wearing a housedress or walking on his hands? What about Liam, Haven's brother (such a sweet boy)? And of course, everyone needs to know what happens next for Theo. These are the ways a great author gets us to buy-in for the entire series with just the first book — well-played, Julia, well-played.

This is a new author for me, and I’ve toyed around with reading this book several times. I finally gave in even though I’m not a second chance love fan. The story was ok, and there were some swoon-worthy paragraphs here and there. I guess my problem is that the backstory just didn’t sit well with me and made everything seem insincere. The two main characters supposedly fell for each other over the summer the met. She confessed to being in love with him and wanting to be with him. He crushes her out of loyalty to his brother who had what turned out to be a very small crush on her, and because he was 7 years older. They run into each other 5 years later. Now she is old enough for her (eyeroll) and bit as innocent. I hate the whole idea of the man sending the girl out into the world to get more experience for him or something. It’s creepy. So she has other relationships, one that she calls her “first love” etc and he is constantly in the media with different girls. The have a conversation like that later and he basically says that she is misunderstanding and she says something like “oh, so you weren’t sleeping with them” and he relishes “I didn’t say that”. I do not understand that entire conversation because he basically just confirmed that he is a manwhore. And it really hurt her because all of them were thin model types and he had crushed her the first time by telling her he wasn’t attracted to her and she wasn’t his type (she is described as basically being a larger girl). She admitted to hating herself and trying to change herself for a long time because of this. So basically to sum it up, he destroyed her self confidence and goes right into screwing everything that walks. He says he stored her on social media like that is supposed to mean he cares (to me keeping his d&$k out of other people would have sent that message stronger but maybe I’m weird). And she has other relationships. I don’t know I just don’t believe their feelings of “love” are real when they were around each other for just as long the first time and didn’t have a problem going out into the world and being with other people. I gave it 2.5 instead of 1 or 2 because there were parts that I did like when I could pretend that their whole connection wasn’t basically a joke. Anyway someone else might like it but I’m just not a fan of this kind of drama and a BS “second chance”.

A bad ass drummer and she's also a woman? Yes please! Throw in a main character that is fat and I'm sold! So many romance books are about "perfect" girls and it is nice to see yourself in a book (not that I am a bad ass drummer haha.) But yes I think that is great of course. In addition, I really love rockstar romance books anyway!

I really like this book! I thought it was a relief to read about a girl like me, one who was not very slim with curves in all the right places… ..but just someone who has a thicker belly, a firm butt and where the male lead doesn't want her to lose weight.

Like everyone else I like to see myself in books and in romance books that does not happen very often. I really liked Maeve, she is bad ass and not afraid to say what she wants. But I found her honesty about her doubts about her body and how she looks really refreshing. Although I am really in favor of body positivity, it is good to see that it is not always so easy to think positive about yourself.

But enough about Maeve and her appearance because that is of course not the only thing in this book! The main thread through this book is of course the relationship between Maeve and Santiago. At their first meeting you already feel that there is chemistry between the two of them, but that they are also too deep into their own mess to do something with it. Of course, what has happened in the past also creates uncomfortable situations.

From the moment Maeve goes on tour with the band, the story really starts to get going! Because then Maeve and Santiago are even more dependent on each other. You see them grow a little closer together, but also share their own concerns and that is why I love their relationship.

But it would not be a good romance if it does not go wrong anyway, if there is not a small obstacle and that happens of course here. I especially liked seeing how Maeves friends received her when this happened. I shed a tear for that because we all deserve such friends!

This book just has a happily ever after, a great tempo and the playlist at the end of the book is really cool! I can recommend everyone to pick up this book and read it.

After the grit and anger of the Blue is the Color men and the angst of Tali’s story, I wasn’t sure where this author would head for her next series. As it turns out, she didn’t go far from some of the minor characters we’ve come to know and love from her other books. We’re finally getting closer to Mo, folks! This time, we meet his band and get to know Santiago and Maeve.

Maeve and Santiago have a bitter, painful past. They were a love that almost was, until Santi broke Maeve’s heart (and a large chunk of his own in the process) in an attempt to force her to spread her wings and fly into a life lived for herself. Of course, five years later they run into each other again. Only this time, Maeve isn’t that same naive-ish young woman. Oh, no. Maeve is a rocking contradiction of terms and refuses to change for some guy who did his best to break her. And Santiago has no choice but to work with her, since his bandmates are all-in with Maeve and her impressive drumming skills.

Maeve and Santi’s story was lighter and sweeter than Tali’s and the last rock band we got to know, but it was still a little gritty and angsty in its own way. They have to find their way past old hurts, new worries, and insecurities to find their HEA, and trust me, it’s a bumpy ride at times. And yet again, I feel as though we’ve gotten to know some fabulous people in this book. I can’t wait to see what comes next for the members of Unrequited!

I need to start with how delighted I am that Julia Wolf is treating us to a new rockstar series!! Her Blue Is The Color series ranks high on my list of favorite series. After reading Unrequited, I see some stiff competition for the Blue Boys.

I absolutely loved this book! Maeve is every woman who's ever been told she doesn't fit the mold. She owns her curves and sways those hips to the beat of her own drum. When she's on stage, those drums get louder. This southern peach rocks with the best of them. She's the beating pulse bringing the show to life.

Santiago is the older, sexy bassist. He's rough around the edges and has a heart of gold underneath his rugged exterior. He brings the dash of angst and gritty sexiness I yearn for in a book. He's conflicted, broody and I can't get enough of him.

The secondary characters are standouts in this novel as well. Mo and Murray make for some great laughs and I can't wait to read more about them.Yael and Haven are there for all your girl support needs.

You can not go wrong with a Julia Wolf novel and Unrequited is no exception. Santiago and Maeve's story will captivate you from the first few pages. Go ahead and cancel those plans! Or at least get this book in your hands. It's full of heart, laughs and more euphemisms for dick than you can imagine! 🍆 Let's face it, now you're intrigued!

**** The review I posted on 2/22/2020, right after finishing this book is getting a little tweak! Here's it is, with a few minor changes. Unrequited is heading your way on 3/12/20, tomorrow!!!! Get ready to be wowed!

Rocked again! 🥁

If you love opening up a brand new book by the talented author Julia Wolf, then your lucky day is coming! This new rockstar romance series has roots in her Blue is the Color world and if you've had the pleasure of reading them, then you must remember the devilishly flirtatious, younger rising star, Mo, who stole our hearts while he tried to steal everyone else's!!! He's hard to forget and the band he's assembled, Unrequited, has a cast of very interesting characters that will burrow right under your skin, teasing and leaving you wishing more from this crazy collection of friends and bandmates. I already have a few favorites and want ALL of their stories as soon as possible!

The Unrequited series begins in earlier times with Mo's bass player- the older, intense and brooding Santiago and family friend of Mo and his sister-curvy, young and beautiful Maeve. Their circumstances were at opposite ends of the spectrum back then, but some things were always there- attraction and ultimately, their passion for music.

Mo's band ends up back in town and partying in the same bar Maeve is now waitressing in...let's just say, life is coming back to haunt her and she is not happy to see a certain bass player again. He crushed her spirit 5 years ago and to her former 18 year old heart, it was and still is unforgivable. Seeing him again, here in her space, brings back all those feelings of inadequacy that have lived in her head and shaped her decisions ever since.

This book has an almost second chance feel to it, believe me..lots of feelings were brewing and boiling over between Maeve and Santiago and not all of them are welcome ones.

But...Maeve has that hidden side that not everyone knows about...she may still be the sweet southern belle her parents raised her to be, but under all that glossy veneer lies a talented rock and roll warrior woman who can kick anyone's ass on the drums any day of the week! Her past mistakes and life experiences have made her stronger, fearless and independent, far removed from the innocent girl that Santiago once knew. The real Maeve has stood up, so look out world and take notice...boy do they notice!

An opportunity presents itself to join Mo's band, to take on her role as the hard core musician she is and Maeve wants it so badly, but will Santiago stand in her way? Can she look at his smirky, heart stomping face 5 years later and not be affected by him? I'll admit that I wasn't quite sure how I felt about Santiago at certain points along the way, but as their story progressed, I saw through his gruff exterior to the man within.

This slow burning, frenemies that 'need a chance to make things right' romance has a past/present style at times, gradually revealing the emotional clues that you'll be dying to piece together!!! Maeve and Santiago show us their feelings in my favorite way to read a romance, in both the H and h's points of view. Maeve is not a stick figure woman and has had to deal with body image prejudice all her life, often judged by her appearance rather than her talent. As the story digs deeper, we can see how this has affected her, but also made her stronger- to speak up when needed, to stand up for herself, even when insecurity raises doubts in her mind.

Santiago, the stoic man that he is, grapples with many of his own issues- needing to be a fierce protector, feeling like his sketchy past is waiting to ruin his future, hiding and denying his own buried feelings. How can Maeve and Santiago find closure or maybe a future with these obstacles to overcome?

There are some 'hell yeah girl' power moments, hilarity, tears, struggles and happiness as past and present meld into right now. When I found out this series would tell the story of a sassy plus sized southern woman with an alter ego as a wild, ball of fire female drummer in a male dominated profession, I had my own 'hell yes, gimme now' moment! Julia Wolf writes such a range of emotions into her books, giving her ladies strength, power and the wisdom to live as independent but loving people that are, beautiful and unique, inside and out!

Unrequited proved to be another tumultuous ride thru Julia Wolf's rock and roll world, which I love to be in and I'll be counting the days until the next book in this exciting series pops onto my kindle! Mo- I'm waiting patiently for you!

My thanks to the author for an early, complimentary version of this book to read in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.

4.5 stars. No one writes a rockstar romance quite like Julia Wolf and you will definitely not be disappointed with Unrequited! If you have previously read books by this author, then you may be familiar with the rock band Unrequited. If this is your first rocker romance by her, then you are in for a treat! Wonderfully written, Unrequited is crafted in such a way that you cannot help but be fully immersed in the characters’ journey and fall in love with Maeve and Santiago. One thing that I absolutely adore about this author’s writing is that all of her characters are undeniably unique with strong, likable personalities and they are perfectly flawed in such away that they are relatable. I can honestly say that this goes for both Maeve and Santiago as well as the supporting characters.

If I had to sum up my review in two words, it would be - female drummer - because how awesome is it to have the leading lady rock out on such a heart-pounding instrument often dominated by men in the hard rock world!? But, do not be mistaken here, Maeve is not a drummer girl. She is a drummer and an excellent one who finds herself on tour with Unrequited. . . with a man who shredded her heart 5 years prior. Maeve is a strong heroine who doesn’t fit into society’s standards of the perfect Southern Belle flitting about in size 0 clothing. She is a voluptuous woman who can ooze Souther charm all while rocking out. She is vibrant and talented, but she is also insecure in some areas of her life. She is a girl that I could really identify with and a girl that I would love to have in my corner.

Santiago is the older bass player for Unrequited and was hesitant to have Maeve join the band on the road due to various reasons. It took me a little longer to warm up to him, but Santi won me over with being a little rough around the edges all while possessing a big, protective heart. These two have a bitter past between them and it was entertaining to see how their relationship evolved. I did find the book to be a bit slow in the beginning, but once it picked up, it really picked up! I enjoyed the palpable heat between Santiago and Maeve and my kindle may have spontaneously combusted a few times due to the scorching scenes.

I also really liked how the author scattered brief flashbacks throughout the book to illustrate how the band originally formed and how things went down with Maeve and Santiago years prior. Unrequited is a well written read that is more along the lines of the Blue is the Color series and not quite as emotionally gut wrenching as the Never Blue Duet. As with this author’s other books, there is a delightfully entertaining cast of secondary characters. I adored the other members of Unrequited as well as Maeve’s friends. Overall, I really enjoyed this rockstar romance complete with it’s likable characters and engaging storyline. I am counting down the days until this author’s next release.

I received an early complimentary version of this book.

Just when I think I couldn't love this author even more, she goes and writes a book that resonates so deeply within my soul. This is so much more than a rockstar romance: it's about self love, that beauty is more than what society tells us it is, the power of family, and that true love will prevail through everything.

Mauve is a curvy, plus sized woman who is someone I immediately need to become best friends with. She is beautiful and desirable, and she knows this.. She knows that her body type is not for everyone, but she loves who she is and will never again let anyone take that from her. She is a badass drummer -- not a girl drummer, just a drummer, thankyouverymuch-- who marches to her own beat. She is a southern gal with a heart of gold and a spine of steel and I ADORE her. When she is reunited with the man who tore her heart to shreds five years ago, her world will never be the same.

Santiago is a tough, jaded man with a beautiful soul. He has immense guilt over something that he had no control of, and because of that, his band is out of a drummer. When he sees Mauve again, and then later unknowingly listens to her with her own band killing it on the drums, he is adamant about her not joining Unrequited .. not because she lacks talent, but because of who she is. Santiago accepts all of Mauve's bitterness and pain, and he definitely deserves it after what he did, but seeing these two evolve and move past that, and even from such a beautiful connection was absolutely everything. I love their love!!

We are also introduced to so many amazing new characters that I'm so excited to learn more about! Nobody writes rocker romances with all the emotions quite like this amazing lady, and I'm so excited for more in this series!!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

So far Julia Wolf has hit me in all the feels with all of her books. Unrequited was no exception! These characters are far from perfect and own that in every aspect of their life. This is a second chance romance I didn't knew I needed and I'll definitely think about frequently.

Our main character Maeve has definitely become a favorite of mine. Maeve isn't your perfect girl. She has curves and owns them. Of course she has her insecurities at times, but Maeve won't let anyone treat her badly or without respect. I loved this about her. Maeve is a strong woman who is a drummer and fights for what she wants to do. I loved this so much!! It was nice to see a character who doesn't fit society's image and just be herself.

Santiago is a tough man with a big heart. I loved slowly learning things about his past. There was so much more to him than we know from the start. For me in the end he was just one big teddy bear. His father made sure to teach him how to treat women well and that definitely shows. Santiago is protective of the ones he loves and it does backfire on him every once in awhile, haha. It was so interesting to see him let his walls down and love.

Their relationship was a very interesting one. Five years before Maeve starts drumming for Unrequited there were definitely moments between these two characters. The flashbacks were perfect and really added some extra emotion to this story. I loved that it took time for them to find each other again and when they did there wasn't too much angst. Yes, there were obstacles, but it wasn't too much!

Besides an amazing romance, there is also an amazing cast of characters. All of the band members, Maeve's best friend and Yael really made this story special! If I could, I would want all of them to have their own story! Haha. Julia Wolf did it again and I can't wait for her next book.

I received an ARC from the author and I am happy to give my honest review.

Ugh. This book gave me a hangover. Where else can I find another Maeve? She is tough, positive, a rebel, confident, and everything I want to be. She owns her life and does what she wants, regardless of what her family or friends think she should do. I want to be friends with Maeve.

When Maeve was 18, she met Santiago through her friend's brother. They were starting to get serious about their band and she snuck in to practice on the drums. Her family wanted her to be a perfect Southern girl and she wanted to be a rocker chick. They had a great summer getting to know each other before it all went downhill.

Several years later they run into each other again. Maeve is trying to make it onto the music scene and catches a break when Santiago's band Unrequieted needs a drummer stat. She auditions and the scene where their manager calls out her plus-sized appearance made me slow clap. Maeve is a boss.

She goes from hating Santiago to slowly becoming friendly to more. This was a delicious slow burn and I was INTO it. I totally got where Santiago was coming from and I loved him but Maeve stole the show. I wanted them to be together because he was good for her and she deserves the best.

Read this book. It's not necessary to read any of this author's other books but duh... you should. They are great. You won't regret a minute you spend with Santiago, Maeve, and the rest of the band. I can't wait to see whose story is next.

As a curvy girl with self image issues, I relate to Maeve on an almost embarrassing level. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, it's my first experience with the author but I was sucked in from the get-go. Julia writes so well, her descriptions are so clear, so vivid that I feel like if I close my eyes I can smell what the characters smell. Her characters are funny, relatable and real, I wanted to hang with these people.

I request, nay, demand more. I'd like to know how the reunion with her Mom went, does she ever reunite with her dad? What the hell was Yael's deal - do we ever find out why she was offish? SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.

I think this shows the mark of a great author, someone who weaves a wonderful story with genuine characters and leaves the reader mulling over the book and wanting more. Loved it!

Maybe 2.5 stars?

I had to drag myself to the finish line on this one. I think the book had good bones, I've just read much better rockstar romances. I loved that the hero and the heroine were both rockstars. The curvy heroine/female drummer rep was awesome Plus Santiago is a really hot hero name and I like the cover. But I couldn't invest myself in the story or the relationship between the main characters. The secondary characters took away from the main plot. The other two band members both had names that started with "M" which made them nearly interchangeable in my mind. The heroine's childhood best friend didn't seem like that great of a friend? Basically, everything dragged except the "I love yous" which felt abrupt. Overall, I totally get why people like this book, grumpy hero vibes for days, but it just didn't work for me.

Julia has done it again! Maeve and Santiago’s story is a slow burn romance that captivates you from the very start. What I loved was that Maeve was a female drummer and not a size zero! She owned the way she looked! Maeve was rejected by Santi 5 years before the story is set. He rejected her due to her age and the fact that he thought he was a bad person. He thought he was setting her free when she wanted to basically go where he went. Santi had a hard upbringing but the band Unrequited was the making of him. He wasn’t really very keen for Maeve to join the band as the drummer after his brother let them down. How he let them down I won’t say but it’s a very important part of the story. At times the way Maeve kept pushing Santi away I felt sorry for him, because once he’d made his mind up, he was all in. She’d had good reason to push him away and a previous relationship had knocked her confidence greatly, again no spoilers, it all comes out in the wash as they say. I loved the reference to a band of a certain colour we all know well! It was a real chuckle moment the way they were brought into the story. It was brief but very funny. The story follows Santiago and Maeve as they work through their ‘demons’ and learn to trust and hope for a good future. This story has a bit of angst, humour, soul searching, an independent strong female character and a good old brooding rocker who knows what he wants. The secondary characters...there’s no end of story potential with that little lot. I can’t wait to see what Julia brings us next.

Before I starting reading Unrequited, I wondered how easy it would be to adjust to a new rockstar book. I mean, Blue Is The Color set a certain standard for me. But it did not take any longer than the first page for me to be hooked on Maeve and Santiago's story. It held my attention from beginning to end. Maeve's character was epic and I will not forget her anytime soon. Now for Santi... I wanted to punch him in the face and them love him forever. I understood his intentions from the beginning but it still stung at times! I absolutely love the protectiveness he gave Maeve and all the sweet words he would say to her. So very swoon worthy! And that epilogue?! Oh how wonderful it was and so happy with the ending! (Even though I am so not ready to be done with them.) :)

If you are a fan of the Blue is the Color Series or just a fan of Julia Wolf, this is a must read. Even if you haven't read any of Ms. Wolf's previous works but like rock star stories, this is a must read. Ms. Wolf creates wonderful characters. You will fall in love not just with the main characters Santiago "Santi" and Maeve but also most of the secondary characters as well, leaving you waiting for their stories.

Maeve has become one of my all time favorite characters. She is a curvy, rebellious, bad-ass drummer that sounds like a southern belle. She never lived up to her mother's ideals as the perfect southern belle. She was too curvy and outspoken. She secretly took drum lessons instead of instruments her mother approved of. Only a few people knew she played drums for years.

At 18, the summer after graduation, Maeve hung out at her best friend Yael's house where she watched and listened to her friends "Mo" Moses, and "Murray" band practice. Maeve would practice her drums in the morning before the band arrived. One morning Santiago arrived early and saw her play. He joined her playing as well. Maeve ended up falling for the older musician but unfortunately at the end of the summer, he broke her heart. Santiago and Mo's band went off to become famous.

She rejected college and went to the West Coast with her friend Haven and Haven's younger brother Liam to pursue her own musical career. Maeve became a real bad-ass drummer with her own unique style. Things didn't work out for them in LA so they returned to the east coast ending up in New York. One night, while waiting tables in NY, Maeve runs into Mo's now famous band minus a drummer. Yael secretly brings the band to see Maeve play and gets her an audition. But can Maeve work and play with the man who broke her heart 5 years ago??

Ms Wolf makes it so I can't wait for Mo and Murray's stories and I truly hope we get Haven's story as well. She brings her characters to life so you fall in love with all of them. She even made Santiago's younger brother Diego someone I cared about by the end and now wonder about his story.

You will love this story as much as I did and will look forward to more as well.

Maeve is a strong Southern belle with dreams of making it big as a drummer in a rock band. Until then, she's a cocktail waitress having to deal with men putting their hands all over her and trying to earn enough in tips to live. Then her friend from their teenage years, Yael, walks into her bar, and Maeve is transported back to her first big heartbreak - Santiago and the time he rejected her and ripped her heart out as he said he she wasn't his type. Ouch.

But when Yael's brother offers her the chance to finally live out those drumming dreams, will she take it and thumb her nose at Santi? How can these two live in such close proximity during a tour when it's obvious that Santi was lying when he told her all those years ago that she wasn't his type?

First off, let me just say how much I love Maeve! She's strong and independent and stands up for herself and knows her own worth. She doesn't let people (men) put her down, and she is determined for them to see her as an equal, which she most certainly is. Now let's discuss Santiago...I can't say that I really liked him that much, but I admired his love for and loyalty to his brother. Other than that, though, he didn't do much for me. Maeve is really too good for him, but she loves him, broody ass behavior and all. Aside from Santiago, though, this is a great story - sweet and fun rockstar goodness. Maeve and co (minus Santi) are a great cast and I can't wait for Mo's story next.

I have just finished reading the ARC for Unrequited and the first thing I need to say is – one click it and buy it now!!

If you have read any of the Blue is the Color series and enjoyed them, then you will absolutely love Unrequited. This is the start of a new ‘band’ series by Julia Wolf and has some familiar faces from the Blue is the Color books – lead singer Mo and his bandmates. Saying this, based on this first novel, I believe this series will stand on its own and you do not need to read any of the Blue is the Color books to delve into this world.

Julia has once again created wonderful characters that will resonate with most readers. She has a knack of giving us gorgeous, sexy, rock stars with an emotional vulnerability that make you fall in love with them… then she provides us with a strong, caring, female heroine who isn’t perfect and very relatable and you are hooked into the story. The characters in this book are just as addictive; Maeve a curvy, Georgian sweetheart who is also a feisty, badass drummer and Santiago, a tall, bearded, tatted, broody hunk of a bass player. Their story has history and chemistry and more than a few good laughs, and the way that band life is threaded throughout just gives it another layer. I also fell in love with a number of side characters in this book whose stories I can’t wait to read – I’m looking at you Murray, Yael and Haven!!

To be honest, before I read this book, I didn’t think I would like this new series as much as Blue is the Color (because, let’s face it, Blue is brilliant!), but if the rest of the series is like this book, I think it might be even better. Gasp!! Shock!! True!

Julia Wolf’s words are always as poetic and beautiful as the music her characters preform. Unrequited is a slow burn with romance of epic proportions. Full of extremely lovable characters, rock and roll, and a whole lot of sweet to go with a dash of angst, this book has the ability to steal anyone’s heart from “romance junkie” all the way to “never picked up a kissing book in my life”. This is just one of those stories that will resonate with countless people.
Maeve is a woman I think many people can really relate to. I know I certainly did. She owns the fact she doesn’t fit the mold of society’s standards on beauty because she knows the truth of how beautiful she really is. That isn’t to say she has no struggles, she has insecurities and vulnerabilities just like all of us, she just puts for the effort to work on loving herself and reminding herself of her worth. It was so refreshing to see a character like her who didn’t devalue themselves but chose to love who they are instead. And then there’s Santiago. This quiet man is hiding perhaps one of the largest most loving hearts I’ve ever read. It’s an understatement to say he would sacrifice anything for those he loves. He’s loyal to a fault and that’s one of the biggest hurdles he has to overcome.
These two together are a beautiful view of the magnificence of true love. It may have taken them some time to get there, but that love shines through in every step of the way.

Put your lighters up peeps! Such a great female empowerment body positive all around kicka$$ heroine we have in Maeve! LOVED HER! Unapologetic, pulled no punches, tell it like it is breath of fresh air hard rockin momma who brought the house down! I loved her fierceness but there was a vulnerability just under the surface that I couldnt help but relate to. Santiago was perfect for her, he just needed to get past that brick wall in his head (that HE put there) that wouldnt let him feel that way about her. His loyalty was admirable, his dirty talk was panty melting, and his sweetness totally swoon worthy. These two were perfect for each other, it just took them a while to figure it out for themselves. And Murray and Mo's antics! Just the kind of laugh break I needed when the emotions ran high and I can't wait to see what the future holds for them! I think love will surprise them both when they least expect it. This author is one to be sure you are following so you don't miss a word!

Have you ever read a story that the beat of their hearts becomes a rhythm in your head and in your soul, well this story is one of those. Unrequited is a story in some ways that is about second chances and finally putting yourself first. Santi and Maeve have history and they both carry the scars of their past. Words spoken, meanings misconstrued, hearts broken all in the name of love. Their story was like a dormant love just waiting for the right light to have it finally bloom into something so blinding that there would be no chance of looking away. The hurt, misunderstandings and the actions to protect one at the cost of another were felt deep under your skin. Maeve was a character that stole your heart and had you wanting to hold her and show her that she was beautiful inside and out. She was the rebel with a cause and that was to shine like the brightest star in the sky. Santi at times frustrated me, made me want to scream and yell but then the words would flow and this character owned me. A story that is beautiful, heartfelt and nothing short of poetic.

Julia Wolf is a new author to me and I am so glad I found her with Unrequited! This is a well written story about redemption, being true to yourself, and fighting for what (or who) you love.

Maeve is a great leading lady. At 23 she knows who she is and what her goals are. She's been knocked down, but never out. Reconnecting with old friends and an old crush changes the course of her life and it was awesome to see her embrace the chance and run with it. I enjoyed seeing her being brave enough to do what she loved and to fight for her place in that world.

Santi is a leading man that I was prepared not to like, but how he treated Maeve as they spent more time together redeemed him and made him a character that I could root for.

The secondary cast of Unrequited is fairly small, mainly the band and a few select friends/family members. I was a little confused as to what Yael's role is (other than being a sister and friend to characters). These were a great group to get to know and I will definitely be looking forward to more stories about this band!

This heart-breaking romance encompassing unrequited love, rejection, second chances, and gritty rocks stars, takes one on a painful ride to hope and healing. Maeve fell hard for the older Santiago when she was eighteen. He is no less enamoured with the curvy Southern Belle but she is definitely not his type until he discovers her secretly practicing drumming. However, with his past and their age difference, Santiago knows he has to whatever it takes to dissuade her from falling for him when she declares her interest in him. A fallout with her parents takes Maeve on a journey across the country where she takes whatever job she can to pay the rent, whilst playing gigs as a drummer when she gets the chance. This once more brings her into Santiago's orbit, but despite the old attraction flaring up once more, there has been too much time, history and hurt to pick up their relationship except as members of the same band. The story is gritty and somewhat painful as both Santiago, Maeve and the band members all deal with the circumstances in their lives. The book is well written, held my interest and I found myself becoming emotionally involved with the main characters. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I was so fortunate to get an ARC of this book. I adored it but then I have loved each of Julia Wolf's books; but this one certainly hit home with me. Maeve (That name love it) and Santi are an amazing couple. Both have been through so much. I identify with what Maeve has been through. It had me in tears, and angry, and in love and a hundred other emotions. Santi is the tall, dark, silent, smouldering bad boy type yet loyal to a fault and with a heart ofi gold. You can't help but love him. The other boys in the band and the girlfriends just add so much to the value of the story. I really can't help but admire the way the story is putt together and I'm so excited to learn more about the other guys in the band as the Unrequited series progresses. I really can't rave highly enough, it certainly deserves many more that a measly 5 stars. Thanks Julia, for talking me on a journey.
