NEWS CENTER FIVE. ALL RIGHTY. TODD STAYING WITH THE T. NEW THIS MORNING, A NEW POLL CLEARLY SHOWS THE FRUSTRATION THAT PEOPLE ARE FEELING WITH THE MTA. OUR PARTNERS AT UMASS AMHERST SURVEYED 700 MASSACHUSETTS RESIDENTS TAKE A LOOK AT ALL OF THE WORDS THEY USE TO DESCRIBE THE T. UNRELIABLE, BROKEN AND MESS. SLOW, BAD, TERRIBLE DISASTER. GOOD. GOOD IS IN THERE, BUT YOU CAN SEE IT’S SURROUNDED BY THOSE LESS FLATTERING CHOICES. AND WE ALSO HAVE NUMBERS TO TALK ABOUT. WHEN ASKED ABOUT HOW THEY WOULD RATE THE QUALITY OF THE T, ONLY 4% SAID EXCELLENT. 14% SAID GOOD, WHICH IS A SIX POINT DROP FROM 2018. 28% SAID FAIR AND 24% RATED THE QUALITY OF THE T AS POOR AND 15% RANKED IT VERY POOR. AS FOR WHO IS TO BLAME, MOST PEOPLE REALLY AREN’T SURE. BUT GENERAL MANAGER PHIL NG STILL GETS MOST OF THE BLAME, FOLLOWED BY THE LEGISLATURE AND ACTING TRANSPORTATION SECRETARY MONICA TIBBETTS. Some of the most common words used to describe the MBTA by respondents to a new poll include "unreliable," "broken," and "mess." Despite that sentiment, the UMass Amherst/WCVB Poll actually found some improvement in how the MBTA was rated, compared to when the same question was last asked.Poll: Crosstabs | ToplinesIn April, the poll found 25% of respondents described the MBTA's quality as very poor, while 15% of those who answered the latest poll selected that same rating.The poll is based on answers from 700 individuals polled between Oct. 13 and 20. In April, the poll found 25% of respondents described the MBTA's quality as very poor, while 15% of those who answered the latest poll selected that same rating.

The poll is based on answers from 700 individuals polled between Oct. 13 and 20. Only 489 of the respondents who live in counties served by the MBTA were asked to respond to questions about the services.

The margin of error is 5.1%.
