UMass Amherst/WCVB Poll Surveys Views on Governor Healey’s First 100 Days, 2024 Presidential Preferences and More

The findings of a new UMass Amherst/WCVB Poll were detailed in a series of news releases this week, detailing Massachusetts residents’ views on Gov. Maura Healey’s first 100 days in office, preferences for the 2024 presidential election and numerous issues facing the commonwealth.

Some highlights from the poll’s results include:

  • Healey garners a 57% approval rating for the job she has done thus far, with just 24% disapproving
     
  • There is strong and broad public support for many of Healey’s signature policies, especially providing free breakfast and lunch to all K-12 students (79%) and the creation of high-speed east-west rail connecting Springfield and Boston (67%)
     
  • 53% of Republicans and 46% of respondents making less than $40,000 per year have all thought about moving out of the Bay State
     
  • 70% of respondents said they would support allowing local governments to set a limit on how much rents can be increased each year
     
  • Close to a majority (48%) of residents rate the MBTA as ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’
     
  • Former President Donald Trump has increased his lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis among Republican voters for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination to 41 points, 59-18
     
  • President Joe Biden continues to hold a steady lead for re-nomination among Democratic respondents

The University of Massachusetts Amherst/WCVB Poll of 700 respondents statewide was conducted by YouGov March 28-April 5.
