Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ Solidarity Action
Updated mid-August:  If you're not familiar with what's been going on, you can read up on the background below.

With ongoing concerns of eviction and violence from Clint Halftown and his fake police, Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ elders have called for community support. Halftown has said he plans to escalate after August 31, and he cannot be trusted not to cause harm in the meantime, so we're keeping our eyes wide. Our continued involvement is not only welcome, but requested, as we offer some security and peace of mind to the traditional Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ, serve as a deterrent against escalation, and can help maintain awareness in our respective communities.

We started off just doing nightly camp-outs at threatened houses, but there are many ways to support!  Fill out the form and an organizer will be in touch with you.

BACKGROUND:

In the mid-2000s, the Bureau of Indian Affairs recognized Clint Halftown as the representative of the Cayuga Nation. (Note, "Cayuga" is considered by some to be a colonized form of "Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ"). At the time, that decision had also gone through Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ governance processes. However, given the abuses Halftown has committed since being in this position, the community has used their consensus-based governance processes to decide that they no longer recognize him in any type of leadership role or want him to be recognized by the BIA. He has abused residents, fired them from their jobs at whim, and in 2020, a police force that he created held people at gunpoint, ziptied them and then destroyed some of their buildings with a bulldozer. He is using the premise of the sovereignty of native nations to test how much power he can consolidate as the US-recognized (and funded) representative. His latest power grab has been to create a fake eviction court, not recognized by the traditional  Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ community, and use it to threaten to evict multiple Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ families from their homes.

This action has been going on since May 11th, when Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ elders called for community support to be on stand-by overnight, follow their directions, and peacefully blockade and document/record the situation if need be. They have a zero tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol (mindchangers) and have asked that no one bring any mindchangers or show up in an altered state. We try to have as many folks as possible meet up at one of the Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ elder's home near Seneca Falls around 8PM. Then we group up and head out to the house or houses that the elders identify as priority for that night. Once there, we make a plan based on the wishes of residents there and our own comfort levels. People generally take turns sleeping in shifts versus being on alert or scouting out the area.

**IMPORTANT**: If you are only able to come for a couple of hours, or you cannot participate in watch duty because of your disability status, age, work schedule, etc., we still would love your support and solidarity in whatever way you can show up!
