Protective Summer Intern Program Overview 


Are you driven to succeed and willing to be flexible in order to grow? Are you looking for the opportunity to utilize your classroom knowledge in a hands-on, business setting? Do you seek opportunities to develop and learn new skills? If your answer to these questions is “yes,” then you could be a fit for Protective’s Legal Summer Internship Program! Our Internship Program is a 10-week program that provides high-performing college students with paid, hands-on experience, mentoring and insight into our business operations. Interns will have the opportunity to collaborate with business leaders to develop and execute solutions to real business problems. In addition to gaining meaningful work experience, interns will have the opportunity to participate in various community and professional development events. Protective Life has been recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Midsize Employers. 


The Protective Summer Internship program begins in early June. This Internship is only available in-person at our corporate office in Birmingham, AL.


Within the General Legal Department, you will assist attorneys who focus on mergers and acquisitions, contracts, litigation, government affairs, and compliance. Your assignments may include but shall not be limited to: reviewing and drafting proposed contract language; researching legal topics affecting the life insurance business; supporting litigation efforts; and assisting with collection matters. Because your tasks will largely depend on the General Legal Department’s constantly changing priorities and needs, your flexibility will be important to your success in this role. As an intern with our office, you will also have the opportunity to participate in projects with other interns working in different departments within Protective.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in Law School as a rising 2L or 3L
  • Flexibility, ability to distill complex concepts into manageable guidance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Located within a 60-mile radius of our Birmingham Office
