Chad Richison Stadium

Central Oklahoma's football stadium was renamed Chad Richison Stadium Oct. 20, 2021. Chad Richison Stadium

Richison is a former student-athlete at Central Oklahoma, having wrestled for the Bronchos in the early 1990s. The founder and CEO of Paycom graduated from UCO in 1993.

Central Oklahoma announced the stadium name change before Week 8 of the 2021 season. The announcement also came with news of new stadium improvements completed in 2022.

The capacity at Chad Richison Stadium grew from 10,000 to 12,000 with an expansion project on the east side. New bleachers and new amenities along a sprawling concourse give the stadium a balanced feel. The stadium also underwent a beautification project in the south end zone. A towering waterfall gives Chad Richison Stadium the most unique look in college football. Trees and boulders flank the cascading fall in the southwest and southeast corners.

UCO also installed a new artificial playing surface in 2022, with Mammoth Construction laying down a sparkling new turf.

In 2023, the renovations continued with the installation of a new video board in the south end zone and two LED ribbon displays fixed atop the Sports Performance Center in the north end zone. UCO is the only school in the MIAA with LED ribbons at its football stadium. A new sound system was also installed during the summer of 2023.

The facility has undergone massive renovations in the past and ranks as one of the finest football stadiums in NCAA Division II.

Artificial turf, new lighting and a state-of-the-art scoreboard were added in 2003, while a three-level press box that includes club seating and new stands on both sides of the field were installed in 2005. The playing surface was replaced with FieldTurf in 2012 and an updated, state-of-the-art scoreboard was added in the summer of 2014, which stood until 2023.

The Bronchos played their first game in the stadium on Sept. 18, 1965, shutting out College of Ozarks (Ark.) 31-0.

UCO has had nine undefeated home seasons and the Bronchos entered 2021 with a 187-108-5 record in the facility.

UCO's month-by-month record in the facility is:

Month W-L-T Pct.
August 2-4-0 0.333
September 61-33-2 0.645
October 75-45-2 0.622
November 47-25-1 0.650
December 2-1-0 0.667
Totals 187-108-5 0.631

UCO's longest winning streak at the stadium is 13, set from 1969-71.

The Bronchos are 5-1 in playoff games at home, topped by a 14-11 win over Colorado Mesa on Dec. 18, 1982 in the NAIA national championship game that was televised live on USA Network.
