CSAC is a group of youth advocates, representing student voices around NYC. As an applicant, please consider the communities you will be able to represent as an advocate.

For Additional Students -- Please include contact information for an adult leader for the youth group you are representing, who may be contacted as a reference and informed of your interest in representing the group on CSAC.

Stay tuned! You'll be contacted by email regarding your CSAC application.

Part 2: Working Groups
In addition to whole group activities, CSAC divides into Working Groups (WGs) in order to pursue particular issues in depth, or push forward new, promising practices for CSAC. CSAC's returning student members, the Executive Board, determine WG themes. All Working Groups include adult partners, often critical DOE stakeholders, because authentic youth-adult partnership is integral to the success of CSAC.

Read through the 2022 CSAC Working Groups. Rank in your order of interest (1st, 2nd, 3rd). You will be assigned to a WG. Don't worry, there are only good choices! Groups will be encouraged to collaborate on making innovating meaningful change, and all of the issues and work are intersectional.

Once assigned, each WG will determine the best time to meet weekly (virtual).

Student Voice
- This WG will create more opportunities for student voice, on a range of topics: 1) In Schools: by helping facilitate youth-led town hall or roundtable style discussions, capturing best practices, AND creating resources students and schools to use to make change in their community. 2) Citywide: by advancing more authentic student voice practices within the NYC Panel for Education Policy (PEP). Every year, 2 CSAC students serve on PEP, and additional CSAC members make up a team (the PEP Squad) involved in policy research, student outreach, and speaking to the PEP regarding student concerns.

Mental Health
- This WG will focus on topics related to mental health in order to facilitate town hall or roundtable style discussions that uplift student concerns and ideas, learn more about promising practices, and prioritize student views within recommendations for DOE policy and practice. This WG will be encouraged to consider mental health advocacy through the lenses of care, equity, and intersectionality.

Racial Justice
- This WG will focus on topics related to racial justice in order to facilitate town hall or roundtable style discussions that uplift student concerns and ideas, learn more about promising practices, and prioritize student views within recommendations for DOE policy and practice. This WG will have learning and advocacy opportunities. Students will engage in self reflection, community building, and research, and explore practices within the group to reflect changes we want to see in our system as a whole.

Communications
- This WG will blend creativity, wellness, and advocacy through social media! Last year CSAC launched an Instagram page, and this year we will take it to the next level. If you are a designer, journalist, storyteller, artist, activist, or influencer - this group is for you. This WG will work together to share information, create original content, elevate CSAC initiatives, and inspire! Students will incorporate mindfulness and advocacy skills into a social media practice for positive change.
