About this event

Cornell Tech, in collaboration with the NYC DOE's CS4All and NYC Men Teach, presents Fireside with Colson Whitehead. Participants at this virtual event will have the opportunity to hear author Colson Whitehead read excerpts from his Pulitzer Prize winning book, The Nickel Boys. After Colson Whitehead’s talk, participants have the opportunity to engage in critical yet casual conversation to explore the messaging we send to brown and Black children in the classroom and how, particularly in computer science, teacher representation matters.

Colson Whitehead is the author of nine books of fiction and non-fiction, including The Underground Railroad, which was a #1 New York Times bestseller and winner of a Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. He is a recipient of MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellowships and resides in New York City.
