About Beta

We’re building NSF’s new website in small, iterative pieces. This effort has just begun, so there may not be much to see right now. As we revise content in the coming weeks and months, we will move it from nsf.gov to beta.nsf.gov. While this is NSF’s “beta” site, the content is real.

Our promise to you

Our goal is to make the transition to our new site as seamless as possible. We want you to be able to find what you need easily, whether it’s on beta.nsf.gov or still on nsf.gov. Our goal is to be transparent while making both sites effective in getting you to what you’re looking for.

We’re proud of our digital content, including:

  • News about NSF-supported advances and breakthroughs.
  • Funding opportunities for researchers working at the frontiers.
  • Amazing science videos and photos
  • Information on research award programs that help the U.S. achieve excellence in STEM education.
  • Statistical data about the state of the U.S. science and engineering enterprise.

There’s so much more we have to offer and we’re adding new resources all the time.

We invite you to check back to see beta.nsf.gov evolve – it’s going to be an exciting ride.

About NSF

NSF is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 “…to promote the progress of science, to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare, to secure the national defense …”

The National Science Foundation propels the nation forward by advancing fundamental research in all fields of science and engineering. NSF supports research and people by providing facilities, instruments and funding to support their ingenuity and sustain the U.S. as a global leader in research and innovation. With a fiscal year 2023 budget of $9.5 billion, NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and institutions. Each year, NSF receives more than 40,000 competitive proposals and makes about 11,000 new awards. Those awards include support for cooperative research with industry, Arctic and Antarctic research and operations, and U.S. participation in international scientific efforts.
