INTRODUCTION

The Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Intersectional Indigenous, Race, Ethnicity, and Politics, starting August 23, 2022. This nine-month non-tenure track position carries undergraduate teaching responsibilities primarily focused on Black and Indigenous political and social thought and practice.

The Department of Political Science serves a crucial role at UConn and beyond its five campuses. Our faculty conduct cutting-edge research and utilize innovative teaching practices in the classroom. Our undergraduate program prepares students to be active and constructive citizens and provides them with hands-on experiences that demonstrate the real-world applications of their degree. Through our graduate program, we educate future scholars and professionals in the tools of our trade. 

Housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Ph.D. degree across five subfields: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, and Public Law. We also offer a Graduate Certificate and Master of Arts in Race, Ethnicity, and Politics, as well as a Fifth-Year Master’s degree program for undergraduates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in an area relevant to the interdisciplinary study of politics.
• Experience teaching undergraduate courses focused on Black and/or Indigenous political/social thought and practice.
• A commitment to working with a diverse student body.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Experience teaching feminist and/or queer theory.
• Evidence of commitment to broadening student participation and integrating racial and social justice concerns into instruction.
• Critical pedagogical techniques, whether feminist, antiracist, and/or decolonial, that meet the needs of diverse learning styles and affirm BIPOC cultural wealth.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2022.  Duties include a teaching load of 21 credit hours of instruction per year or the equivalent. The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
