Addressing Learning Loss
At the beginning of the school year during the first two weeks, all teachers reviewed the standards and skills from the previous grade to provide a foundation for students before learning new content. The standards and skills needed for high school courses depended on building block standards from the previous year’s content in English language arts, math, science, social studies, CTAE, and world language courses. Additionally, the "Curriculum-at-a-Glance" documents were adjusted to allocate additional time, as needed, to teach the pre-requisite skills and standards and address potential gaps.
Now, schools are comparing the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) fall 2020 data results with the winter 2020 data results to determine student-specific gaps. Teachers can identify specific standards and skills to provide intentional, targeted support for each student during the extended learning time block that is a mandatory component of the virtual schedule. Also, students may receive additional support through before school tutorial, after school tutorial, small group instruction, foundation courses, and credit recovery options.
The District is planning summer learning opportunities for elementary, middle, and high school students. The summer learning programs will focus on enrichment, remediation, and/or credit recovery. The summer learning programs will be offered in blended formats. Also, the District will provide extended school year services in June and July for students with disabilities as determined individually by the IEP team based on data.
