Behavior Talks

Behavior Talks is a series of brief trainings created by HCPSS staff. Each video shares useful tips to promote student success related to behavior, social/emotional needs, organization/self-management at home, and more.

Setting A Goal

By the end of this module, you will learn what it means to set a SMART goal, why goals that are SMART are important, and how breaking down the specific components of a goal can improve overall behavioral and academic outcomes.

Talking About Behavior

In this video, you will learn about the C.A.L.M. approach. You will learn about how to effectively implement strategies and learn tips and tricks to encourage a successful discussion.

Communication Before Escalation

By the end of this module, we want you to understand that behavior is a form of communication and to learn ways to encourage your student to communicate effectively using a variety of tools.

Being a Flexible Thinker

By the end of this module, we are hoping that you will have learned more about what it means to be a flexible thinker, why being a flexible thinker is so important for both students and adults, and how including flexible thinking practices within home routines can improve overall academic and behavioral outcomes for students.

Breaking Down a Task

By the end of this module, parents and caregivers will be able identify and be provided strategies on breaking up more complex tasks into more manageable steps.

Giving Feedback and Praise

In this video you will learn about praise versus correction, how to talk with your student about what motivates them, learn examples of different types of reinforcers, learn why praise is so important, and learn how to use positive feedback and praise to increase desired behavior.

Making A Schedule & Setting Expectations

By the end of this module, we hope you will have a better understanding of the importance of making schedules and setting clear behavioral or academic expectations for your student. In this module, we will review different types of schedules, learn how to make a simple schedule, and will further explain setting expectations
