What We Do

Education

SPLKA believes that the youth of today will be the caretakers of our maritime history tomorrow.

To support that belief and to aid our mission, we welcome educational visits from all sizes and types of school groups. If you are interested in setting up a tour for your students or another type of large group, please fill out the School & Group Tour Request Form below. The Operations Manager will be in touch to coordinate a date and time that will suit your needs.

We appreciate you scheduling your group visit in advance so that we may ensure the lighthouses are appropriately staffed. Due to the popularity of our lights and the busy areas they are located within, those who do not make prior arrangements risk the chance of missing out on our group rates. We hope to create meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences for all of our visitors, and we encourage youth volunteerism and interest in any of our lights.

LESSON PLANS

The following lesson plans were developed by educators and linked to Michigan Content Standards. All are written for a 4th grade level, however they can be adapted to fit other levels.
