RCMP officer charged with sexual assault

A Halifax RCMP sergeant is facing a sexual assault charge after an investigation by the province’s Serous Incident Response Team into an incident at police retreat at White Point Beach Resort.

The incident dates back to March of this year and involves allegations made by a female RCMP civilian employee.

SiRT director Ron MacDonald told The Rick Howe Show, his investigators were called in after a complaint was lodged against the 47-year-old sergeant from Dartmouth, shortly after the alleged March 25th incident.

“It was determined a charge of sexual assault should be laid against Sgt. Kenneth James Taker, the allegations relate to inappropriate sexual touching,” said MacDonald.

He said his unit also investigated as second allegation of an assault from the night before, lodged by a female RCMP member.

“We concluded our investigation into that matter, with the determination that we will not be laying charges,” said MacDonald.

He said evidence gathered in the second investigation has been turned over to the Crown who may use it in the prosecution of charges relating to the first matter.

Taker will appear in Liverpool court on sexual assault charges on July 7th.
