Keeping students meaningfully engaged is always challenging, but distance learning brings new obstacles. Luckily, many of the strategies educators use for in-person learning can be applied in virtual environments, too.

Conditional Cash Transfer for Educating Syrians and Other Refugees in Turkey 

Syrian children face several obstacles in enrolling in Turkey’s public schools. The Conditional Cash Transfer for Education aims to address these barriers by providing bimonthly cash payments to eligible households. AIR conducted a rigorous program evaluation that explored the program’s relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, coherence and coordination, and sustainability.

To What Extent Does In-Person Schooling Contribute to the Spread of COVID-19?

School districts with contact-tracing data are finding that infected students and teachers have lower rates of spreading COVID-19 when proper measures are taken. AIR’s Dan Goldhaber co-authored a recent CALDER Center working paper on the topic with researchers from Michigan State University and the University of Washington.
