Tucker HS (JROTC) Flight Simulator
Tucker High School’s Air Force JROTC–our headquarters and local Tucker JROTC team are really excited about his new STEM initiative for students. Tucker High School has just received EDUSTATION Flight Simulators that are designed to aid and assist in our STEM impact.
JROTC FLIGHT ACADEMY: Of note, the Air Force is funding scholarships for AFJROTC cadets to attend private pilot training at public/private universities during the summer of 2022. Selected cadets will be identified through a competitive boarding process. The scholarship will pay for round-trip airfare, room and board, collegiate academics, and flight hours required to potentially earn a Private Pilot’s Certificate (PPC) through an in-residence collegiate program that is approximately eight (8) weeks in length–the see criteria below!
Eligibility Criteria:
– 17 years old by the 1st of July – Obtain a minimum fitness assessment score of 50- Have minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) to be nominated.- Complete an online AQT comprised of five (5) subtests, which includes the following: 1) math, 2) table reading, 3) aviation information, 4) instrument comprehension, and 5) weight perception.
– Have a “strong” interest in aviation and a “never-quit” attitude.
2. Another Air Force JROTC-sponsored program not necessarily related to the flight simulators or Flight Academy is the JROTC J-100 scholarship program.
Formally known as The J-100 AFJROTC Character-in-Leadership Scholarship, or The J-100, this program provides 100 cadets a four-year scholarship with benefits including four years 100% paid tuition, in addition to university-owned/on-campus housing fees ($10,000 max per year), a book stipend, and the standard AFROTC cadet stipend. The scholarship can be used at any Air Force ROTC host or crosstown university. There are no specific degree requirements, but cadets who desire to potentially enter the US Space Force may want to consider pursuing technical degrees. Accepting the scholarship will result in a cadet being required to enroll in AFROTC and pursue an officer commission.
Eligibility Criteria:
a. Cadets must be a US Citizen (or already progressing towards obtaining their US citizenship by first term of their freshman year in college)
b. Cadets must be high school seniors who are Current Academic Year ACTIVE AFJROTC
c. Cadets must have a minimum of 2 calendar years of AFJROTC experience- units on a 4×4 block schedule: cadets on a 4×4 block schedule for 2 semesters in 1 calendar year are not eligible; cadets on a 4×4 block schedule 1 semester each year for 2 calendar years are eligible)
d. Cadets must have an un-weighted cumulative GPA of 3.0
e. Cadets must have a valid minimum 50 fitness score (current or previous score in WINGS) f. Cadets must have a 22 ACT or 1100 SAT (or a No-Test Waiver–see Note 3 below) and will be required to have the scores sent in one of the following ways:
1) Have ACT/SAT agency send the test scores using school code 0548.
2) ACT/SAT score is annotated on the counselor-validated high school transcript.
3) Counselor-validated report of ACT/SAT scores (see Attachment 2 below).
4) Instructor receipt/validation/transmission of cadet’s test agency ACT/SAT score
report to HQ AFJROTC (see Attachment 2 below).
Helpful Emotional Tips During this Season AND everyday!
Be mindful of your wellness both physically and mentally. Live in the present and practice self-care.
SELF CARE SECTION:
- As you are aware, the time changed this past weekend. It gets darker much earlier now. We are still in a pandemic. Many of us have not seen our family members in a while and still some of us may have experienced loss during this season. This may cause some individuals to fall into what is called "Winter Blues".
* DEFINITION OF BLUE: Feeling down or unhappy in response to grief, discouragement, or disappointment.
- Pay attention to yourself and those around you. We want everyone to be alright but, it is okay if you're not. Please reach out to a trusted teacher, the counseling department, seek help with the resources offered in the community or ask your doctor.
* Don't forget WE ALL may be feeling "Blue" at times.
