Updates on COVID-19 Testing and Reporting

Dear EPS Families,

On Tuesday, November 1, the statewide COVID-19 emergency orders that were issued by Gov. Jay Inslee will end. While this will not cause any dramatic shifts in how we conduct classes, we want to make you aware of some of the changes that will result.

Testing: 

• We will now use home testing as the primary method to detect infections among students and staff.

• We will have COVID-19 testing kits for use at home if your child is experiencing symptoms. Each kit contains two tests.

• We will have instructions on how to use the kits available in Spanish and Russian.

• Once our existing stock of tests is depleted, families will be notified.

Reporting:

• If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please report this to your child’s school, including the date symptoms first appeared, if known.

• School staff will inform families of the date their student may return to school, provided symptoms are improving and there has been no fever for 24 hours.

With the end of the emergency order, EPS will no longer require proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a condition for employment or volunteering in our schools. However, health experts continue to recommend that everyone get vaccinated against COVID-19, especially with updated vaccines that cover the Omicron variant now available. COVID-19 Update Following End of State of Emergency

September 29, 2022

Dear Evergreen Community,

On September 8, 2022,  Governor Inslee announced that all remaining COVID-19 emergency orders and the ongoing state of emergency will end on October 31. The lifting of the emergency order means the employee COVID-19 vaccination requirement for public schools in the state of Washington ends. Therefore, starting on November 1, proof of COVID-19 vaccination will no longer be a requirement for employment with Evergreen Public Schools. 

Also, starting on November 1st, COVID-19 vaccination will no longer be required to volunteer in Evergreen Public Schools. Volunteers will still be required to complete the Volunteer Application Process. 

Though the state’s emergency orders are ending, health experts highly recommend people get vaccinated against COVID-19, although this is not a requirement. If you need help to find a vaccine, use the location tools on the Clark County COVID-19 page.

Regardless of vaccination status, if you think that your student has been exposed to COVID-19, the following guidelines are recommended:

• Monitor for symptoms for 10 days after exposure

• Get tested as soon as possible

• Wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days. Schools have masks available, if needed.

Уважаемое сообщество школьного округ Эвергрин!

8 сентября 2022 года, губернатор Инсли объявил о том, что все оставшиеся экстренные приказы в отношении COVID-19 и действующее чрезвычайное положение прекратят свое действие 31 октября. Отмена чрезвычайного положения означает, что требование о вакцинации для сотрудников государственных школ штата Вашингтон от COVID-19 отменяется. Таким образом, начиная с 1 ноября доказательство вакцинации против COVID-19 больше не будет требоваться для работы в государственных школах округа Эвергрин.

Кроме того, с 1 ноября больше не требуется прививка от COVID-19 для волонтеров в государственных школах округа Эвергрин. Волонтеры по-прежнему должны будут пройти процесс подачи  Заявления для волонтеров.

Estimada comunidad de Evergreen,

El 8 de septiembre de 2022, el gobernador Inslee anunció que todas las órdenes restantes de emergencia por COVID-19 y el estado de emergencia en curso, terminarán el 31 de octubre. El levantamiento de la orden de emergencia significa que el requisito de vacunación contra el COVID-19 termina para los empleados de las escuelas públicas de Washington. Por lo tanto, a partir del 1 de noviembre, la prueba de vacunación contra el COVID-19 ya no será un requisito para el empleo en las Escuelas Públicas Evergreen. 

Además, a partir del 1 de noviembre, ya no se requerirá la vacunación contra el COVID-19 para ser voluntario en Escuelas Públicas Evergreen. Los voluntarios deberán completar el Proceso de Solicitud de Voluntarios.

Dear Evergreen Families,

As we prepare for the new school year, we want to share with you the guidelines we will be using to help mitigate the transmission of COVID-19. To start the year the guidelines will be similar to what we had at the end of the 2021-22 school year.

We will continue to be guided by the recommendations of the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and Clark County Health Department, which have created guidelines for schools with the assumption that we will have to live with COVID-19 in our communities, but that also recognize the importance of in-person learning for the long-term wellbeing of children.

The DOH has issued a “decision tree” that guides students and staff who develop symptoms of COVID-19. Among the key steps:

• Anyone who develops one or more symptoms is required to isolate at home and should be tested for COVID-19. All of our schools have tests available.

• If you test positive for COVID-19, you are required to isolate at home for at least five days. You may return to school after five days if you have no fever for 24 hours (without medication) and your symptoms have significantly improved.

• Day 0 is the first day of symptoms. For people without symptoms, day 0 is the day of a positive test.  

• When you return, it is recommended that you wear a well-fitting mask when around others for days six to 10.

As we did last school year, we will send notifications when there is a positive case of COVID-19 at your students' school. 

Regardless of vaccination status, if you think that your student has been exposed to COVID-19, the following guidelines are recommended:

• Monitor for symptoms for 10 days after exposure

• Get tested as soon as possible

• Wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days. Schools have masks available, if needed.

Following a state mandate, we continue to require all EPS employees and student-facing volunteers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Health experts highly recommend that all students be vaccinated, although this is not a requirement. If you need help to find a vaccine, use the location tools on the Clark County COVID-19 page.

The requirement to wear a mask at school ended in March, 2022. Students, children and staff may choose to wear a mask at school with the expectation that others' choices will be respected. Some will need to wear a mask because they or a member of their household are at high risk for severe COVID-19 disease.

С началом нового учебного года, мы хотим поделиться с вами рекомендациями, которые мы будем использовать, чтобы бороться с распространением COVID-19. В начале года основные меры будут аналогичны тем, что были в конце 2021–2022 учебного года.

Мы будем продолжать руководствоваться рекомендациями Отдела здравоохранения штата Вашингтон (DOH) и Отдела здравоохранения Кларк Каунти, которые разработали рекомендации для школ, предполагая, что нам придется жить с COVID-19 в наших сообществах, и учитывая важность очного обучения для благополучия детей в будущем.

Отдел здравоохранения составил таблицу, которая помогает учащимся и сотрудникам,у которых проявляются симптомы COVID-19, принять решение о дальнейших действиях. Среди этих ключевых мер следующие:

• Любой человек, у которого проявился один или несколько симптомов, должен быть изолирован дома и должен пройти тестирование на COVID-19. Во всех наших школах есть тесты.

• Если у вас положительный результат теста на COVID-19, вы должны изолироваться дома не менее чем на пять дней. Вы можете вернуться в школу через пять дней, если у вас не будет температуры в течение 24 часов (без лекарств) и ваши симптомы значительно улучшатся.

• День 0 — это первый день появления симптомов. Для людей без симптомов день 0 — это день положительного теста.

• Когда вы вернетесь в школу, рекомендуется носить маску, когда вы находитесь рядом с другими людьми в течение 6-10 дней.

Как и в прошлом учебном году, мы будем отправлять уведомления, если в школе ваших учеников появится положительный случай COVID-19.

Estimadas Familias de Evergreen,

A medida que nos preparamos para el inicio del nuevo año escolar, deseamos compartir con ustedes las pautas que pondremos en marcha para mitigar la transmisión de COVID-19. Las medidas serán similares a las que tuvimos al finalizar el año escolar 2021-22.

Seguiremos guiándonos por las recomendaciones del Departamento de Salud del Estado de Washington (DOH) y el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Clark, ya que crearon pautas para las escuelas con la suposición de que tendremos que vivir con COVID-19 en nuestras comunidades, sin embargo, también reconocen la importancia del aprendizaje en persona para el bienestar a largo plazo de los niños.

El DOH ha emitido un “árbol de decisiones” que guiará a los estudiantes y al personal que desarrollen síntomas de COVID-19. Los pasos clave a seguir son:

• Cualquier persona que desarrolle uno o más síntomas debe aislarse en su hogar y debe hacerse la prueba de COVID-19. Todas las escuelas tienen exámenes disponibles.

• Si da positivo a COVID-19, debe aislarse en casa durante al menos cinco días. Puede regresar a la escuela después de cinco días si no tiene fiebre durante 24 horas (sin medicamentos) y sus síntomas han mejorado significativamente.

• El día 0 es el primer día de síntomas. Para las personas sin síntomas, el día 0 es el día que reciba una prueba positiva.  

• Es recomendado que use una mascarilla que le quede bien cuando regrese y cuando esté cerca de otras personas durante los días seis a diez.

Seguiremos los mismos pasos del año escolar pasado, cuando haya un caso positivo de COVID-19 en la escuela de su estudiante, le enviaremos una notificación al respecto. 

Independientemente del estado de vacunación, si cree que su estudiante ha estado expuesto a COVID-19, se recomiendan las siguientes pautas:

• Monitoree los síntomas durante 10 días después de la exposición.

• Tome la prueba lo antes posible.

• Use una mascarilla bien ajustada durante 10 días. Las escuelas tienen cubrebocas disponibles, si es necesario.

Siguiendo el mandato estatal, continuaremos exigiendo que todos los empleados de EPS y los voluntarios que atienden a los estudiantes estén completamente vacunados contra COVID-19. Los expertos en salud recomiendan que todos los estudiantes se vacunen, aunque esto no es un requisito. Si necesita ayuda para encontrar un lugar que ofrezca vacunas, use las herramientas de ubicación en la página de COVID-19 del Condado de Clark.

El requisito de usar un cubrebocas en la escuela finalizó en marzo de 2022. Los estudiantes, los niños y el personal pueden optar por usar una mascarilla en la escuela con la expectativa de que se respeten las decisiones de los demás. Algunas personas necesitarán usar una mascarilla porque ellos o un miembro de su hogar corren un alto riesgo de contraer la enfermedad de COVID-19 de forma grave.
