Volunteer Judges Sought for Simulated Congressional Hearings

February 29th, 2024

The Howard County Public School System seeks community members to serve as judges in the annual Simulated Congressional Hearings (SCH), being held at elementary schools across the county from May 3 to June 6. The hearings, which focus on issues related to the Constitution, are the culmination of fifth grade students’ social studies instruction.

During the hearings, judges listen as students share what they have learned, and ask questions and provide constructive feedback. Judges do not need to be constitutional experts and will receive training the morning before their scheduled hearing to ensure they are adequately prepared for their role.

Interested community members should complete the online registration form to indicate their preferred hearing dates and locations. Community members are encouraged to register for as many hearings as they wish to judge. Judging assignments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Community members who register to be a judge will receive an email confirmation from “Member Solutions.” (If they do not see an email confirmation within 24 hours of registering, they should check their spam/junk folders.). Approximately one week before their scheduled hearing(s), they will receive additional information as well as a final hearing schedule.

Details on the Simulated Congressional Hearings can be found online. For additional information email Kimberly Eggborn at kimberly_eggborn@hcpss.org.
