Billboard Dance Chart Upstarts: Joel Corry, Kalendr x Laura Bryna, Moon Boots

Each week, Billboard Dance looks at songs and albums rising on Billboard's dance charts.

Joel Corry, “Sorry”

English DJ/producer Joel Corry commands a No. 32 debut on Billboard‘s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart (dated Sept. 21) with “Sorry.” Corry’s first Billboard chart hit has also made an impact on international formats in recent weeks, including Mexico Ingles Airplay (No. 3) and the Official UK Singles chart (No. 6). “Sorry,” which was featured on the British reality TV show Love Island and sports uncredited vocals from Hayley May, was remixed by James Hype, Majestic and Ten Ven, among others. The song siphons airplay from core-dance affiliates, including Music Choice’s Dance/EDM channel, KMVQ-HD2 San Francisco and KNHC (C89.5) Seattle, according to Nielsen Music.

Chicago-based DJ Kalendr (real name Jason Callender) and Los Angeles-based singer Laura Bryna bounce 44-39 in their second week on Dance Club Songs with “Sweet Revenge.” The first Billboard chart hit for both acts was remixed by Dave Aude, Dave Matthias and Twisted Dee and Diego Fernandez, among others.

“Laura’s vocal was great,” Kalendr tells Billboard. “It was fun to incorporate my style and make a club banger. I’m thrilled to be a part of the project.” Says Bryna, “Kalendr’s mix took ‘Sweet Revenge’ to the next level! I can’t wait to get back into the studio with him on upcoming projects.”

Moon Boots, Bimini Road

Brooklyn-based house DJ/producer Moon Boots (aka Peter Dougherty) debuts at No. 4 on Dance/Electronic Album Sales with Bimini Road. It’s the highest Billboard placement yet for the Hawkins, Indiana, native, whose previous effort, First Landing, reached No. 10 in August 2017. Concurrently, Bimini (named for the Bahamian ruins of Atlantis) begins at No. 24 on Heatseekers Albums, marking Moon Boots’ first landing on the survey.
