Who We Are
Mary Ellen Smith has over 12 years of experience in dog training and has a deep love of all things canine. She has experience with virtually every breed and ages from 10 weeks to 7+ years. She has worked with behaviors ranging from potty training and puppy biting to jumping and reactivity in older dogs.
What We Do
Mannerly Mutts NYC works with you to develop a program that, while it includes universal commands and behaviors, is uniquely tailored to you and your dog. We specialize in the positive reinforcement theory of dog training and believe there are no “Bad Dogs,” only dogs that haven’t yet learned the rules.

Puppy Kindergarten
In Puppy Kindergarten we want to give our clients the tools they need to nurture a Mannerly Mutt. We develop an individualized training plan focusing on problem prevention, which can include common issues such as jumping, nipping and good leash manners as well as any issues unique to your puppy.
Individualized Training
In Individualized Training we focus on problem resolution in addition to problem prevention. This is for dogs entering their “teenage years” at around 6 months, as well as for dogs in their adult and senior years. These sessions are client-driven and can focus on existing behaviors as well as teaching new skills. We can work with you on developing strategies for managing reactivity to other dogs, and people.
Specialized Programs
We can work with you on preparation for the Therapy Dog Exam. We also offer Potty Training Workshops and End-of-Life Doula for Companion Animal services.
