Resources for Employees

Registering With Human Resources

Drexel University is committed to providing employees who have disabilities with equal opportunities to fully participate in the workplace, programs and activities. Drexel employees who have a disability and need accommodations to attain equal access must register with Human Resources.

Employees who are seeking accommodations for a documented disability will need to request an accommodation electronically through Lincoln Financial Group. Employees can access their My Lincoln portal via DrexelOne under the Employee tab. If for any reason an employee is unable to file electronically, they can email hrdisability@drexel.edu, and a professional staff member will follow up with them.

How to file:

  • Online through DrexelOne
  • Employee tab
  • "My Benefits" section
  • Click on link for "Employee Accommodations or Leave of Absence"

Employees must submit the Reasonable Accommodation Medical Authorization Form [PDF] to their healthcare/medical provider, including a current job description listing their essential job functions. This form is treated as confidential information and will only be shared on an as-needed basis with those individuals providing reasonable accommodations.

The form must include the following:

  • A diagnosis of the disability, which is an impairment and/or condition that substantially limits a major life activity for six months or longer, which may include having a record of such an impairment, or being regarded as having such impairment.
  • Temporary adjustments are also available for individuals with short-term impairments, such as those due to accident or injury.

The Reasonable Accommodation Medical Authorization Form [PDF], including job description and any other relevant documentation, must be emailed directly to hrdisability@drexel.edu and should not be uploaded to the My Lincoln portal.

Once the request has been submitted with Lincoln Financial Group and the documentation has been received by Human Resources, they are then reviewed by a professional staff member. If the documentation is complete, the employee will receive an email inviting them to make an appointment to discuss their request for accommodations.

If the documentation is incomplete or the documentation does not indicate a qualifying disability, the employee will be contacted with next steps.

The Interactive Process

Employees who are eligible to receive accommodations for a documented disability will discuss their request and their specific needs with a professional staff member. Accommodations are based on the disability, submitted documentation, and the impact of the disability on the employee. Accommodations are intended to be reasonable and minimize the impact of the disability in the work environment, while allowing the employee to perform the essential functions of their job.

The Accommodations Verification Letter

Employees who are eligible for accommodations receive an Accommodations Verification Letter (AVL). This letter lists the employee's approved accommodations, and once signed by both the employee and professional staff member, a copy will be given to the employee's supervisor. The AVL must be renewed annually, or by the end date stated on the AVL. It is strongly suggested that any necessary follow-up appointments be made in ample time before the expiration date of the AVL in order to avoid interruption in services.

Confidentiality

All documentation submitted to Human Resources is used to verify eligibility for services and support reasonable accommodations. An individual file is created for each employee and is housed securely. Documentation is not shared with other Drexel University departments.

Appeals Policy

If an individual believes they have been denied reasonable accommodations, they can file an appeal.
