INSTRUCTION SUPPORT

Librarians can work with you to develop customized instruction sessions that meet the specific needs of your assignments and learning outcomes.  Bring your students to the library, let us come to you, or embed our modules on your course website. 

Instruction sessions can cover:

  • demonstrations of search techniques using the library catalog
  • explorations and orientation to scholarly research articles
  • discussions of plagiarism and citation best practices
  • developing successful research questions

COURSE RESERVE ITEMS

Course Reserves are textbooks, articles, books or other materials that instructors choose to make available to students at no cost by making them accessible to students at the library.

Complete this online form to set up a course reserve item for your enrolled students.

Types of Reserve Materials:

  • Library Books or Recordings  Library staff will retrieve library materials for you and place them on reserve. Please indicate author, title and call number to expedite processing.
  • Personal Copies  We will affix a barcode, reserve labels, and theft detection devices to books or recordings you provide for reserve. Personal materials are returned to you through campus mail unless otherwise notified. The library is not responsible for loss or damage.
  • Individual Chapters  Chapters or selections from a single book or monograph may be placed on course reserve. Copyright guidelines limit copying to one chapter, or not more than 10% of a work.

Please ensure you are using materials responsibly and with appropriate permissions:

Select Loan Periods and Categories:

  • In-Library Use 1 hour or 2 hours
  • In-Library Use 4 hrs (for equipment and recordings)
  • Out of Library Use (1, 3, or 7 days)

Processing Time

All requests are processed on a first come, first serve basis. Reserve requests are usually processed within three days of their submission date. Processing time may take longer during the beginning of the quarter. When a request is processed, the instructor will receive an email confirmation.

Removal of Materials

  • All reserve material is removed from course reserve at the end of every quarter if not used for next quarter. Instructors must contact the library about subsequent future use.
