Introduction to Tutoring Video

How Does Tutoring Work?

Tutoring sessions are active and collaborative. You and the tutor will work together on the topic that you want to discuss. They work with you, rather than doing your work for you. Depending on the subject you would like to work on, you will be paired with one of our peer, librarian, adjunct faculty or faculty tutors.

Tutoring Policies:

  • Tutoring sessions last up to 50 minutes.
  • You can use tutoring up to:
    • 6 times per week
    • 3 times per day
    • 2 times for the same subject per day
  • You can make an appointment up to 30 minutes after the session start time.
  • You can meet with a tutor in a small group of 2-4 people. To schedule a small group appointment, contact tutoring at jf-tutoring@kctcs.edu.
  • If you can’t come to your appointment, please cancel in advance.
  • If you are 20 minutes late to your appointment without letting us know, your appointment will be marked missed, and the appointment slot becomes open to other students. (You can still show up after 20 minutes, but that session will no longer be reserved for you.)
  • If you miss 3 appointments in 1 semester without canceling, you won’t be able to make an appointment for the rest of that semester without speaking with the director of tutoring services.
  • Due to safety concerns, we will not hold a tutoring session with anyone driving a vehicle at the time of the session.
  • We love working with you during official tutoring hours! We cannot tutor outside of that time.

Tip: To get the most out of the session, be ready with all relevant materials (including your syllabus, assignment, rubric, readings and class notes).

Are you a JCTC student taking classes at a different KCTCS college? Are you a student from a different KCTCS college taking classes at JCTC? Email us at jf-tutoring@kctcs.edu to make an appointment.

We are unable to offer tutoring for class tests, placement tests, personal writing projects, resumes, or courses taught outside of KCTCS. Check out these resources for placement tests.
