Due to the weather, the feral hog trap demonstrations will take place at the Guadalupe County Extension Office located at 210 E. Live Oak St., Seguin, TX 78155.

Feral hogs have been a known issue in the Geronimo and Alligator Creeks watershed. Along with harmful effects on native ecosystems and agriculture, feral hogs are detrimental for the water quality in Geronimo and Alligator Creeks. Join us for a free workshop to discuss the impacts of feral hog activity on watersheds and approaches to control the population of these invasive wildlife species. The meeting will include classroom presentations and outdoor demonstrations of trapping systems.
1 IPM and 1 general CEUs will be available

Lone Star Healthy Streams
Bacteria originating from livestock operations and wildlife pose serious risks to human health. This workshop will focus on three watersheds - the Geronimo and Alligator Creeks watershed, Mid and Lower Cibolo Creeks watershed, and Plum Creek watershed. Basic watershed function, water quality, and specific best management practices related to pastureland, beef cattle, and feral hog management will be discussed. Attendees will have the opportunity to observe some of the best management practices during the outdoor portion of the workshop at a local farm. 2 IPM CEUs will be available!

Water quality related to Geronimo and Alligator Creeks, along with land and watershed management, will be discussed. Topics will include water quality, water quality law, agricultural and urban best management practices, hydrology, and others. The event and its available continuing education credits are free and open to the public. In-person and virtual attendance options are available. Preregistration is required for either attendance option (link provided below). The professional continuing education credits offered are applicable to, but are not limited to, certified crop advisors, Texas Department of Agriculture private pesticide license holders (3 general CEUs), professional engineers, certified planers, landscape architects, professional geoscientists, certified teachers, certified floodplain managers, and select TCEQ occupational license holders.

- The program is free.
- This course will focus on aerobic systems and include the following topics: treatment processes, health and safety considerations, and system inspection and maintenance.
- The course will also provide answers to the most frequently asked questions, including when to pump a tank and what can or cannot go down the drain.
- At the end of the class, you will receive a certificate that will need to be provided to the Guadalupe County Environmental Health office, if you live in Guadalupe County and are planning to do your own maintenance.
- Due to the anticipated full attendance, please be prepared to stay slightly later than 4:00p.m., in order to cover all the material and adequately answer everyone's questions.
- We will break an hour for lunch, and lunch is on your own. We will provide light refreshments.

A brief project update will be provided on the latest events and workshops, and then we will have a class on Rainwater Harvesting administered by Dave Elder of the Guadalupe County Master Gardeners. This is a one-hour class, and is different from the 2 hour class we conducted earlier this month. The class will explain rainwater harvesting--spanning from a 5 gallon bucket to a 30,000 gallon tank, and will demonstrate how to make your own rain barrel. At the close of the class, a 55 gallon rain barrel will be raffled off as a door prize. Come out for a good time and explore the benefits of rainwater harvesting!

Speakers will include representatives of AgriLife Extension, Texas Animal Health Commission, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Wildlife Services and the Texas Department of Agriculture. Topics will include basic ecology and biology, feral hog effects on the Brazos River watershed, regulations for transporting, disease concerns, population dynamics and control techniques, including traps, as well as hunting regulations. There also will be discussion of feral hog resources available to the landowner.
Jeff Hanselka, AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources, Guadalupe County, said they have applied for five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units � two general, two integrated pest management and one in laws and regulations � for commercial, non-commercial and private applicators attending the program.
The cost is $25 and includes lunch.

A Texas Riparian and Stream Ecosystem Workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, September 17th, from 8am to 4pm. It will be held at the GBRA River Annex at 905 Nolan Street in Seguin.
The workshop will focus on the nature and function of stream and riparian zones and the benefits and direct economic impacts from healthy riparian zones. A riparian zone is the area
along the bank of a stream, creek, river or lake. The program will cover an introduction to riparian principles, watershed processes, basic hydrology, erosion/deposition principles,
and riparian vegetation, as well as potential causes of degradation and possible resulting impairments, and available local resources including technical assistance and tools that can
be employed to prevent and/or resolve degradation.
This one-day training will include both indoor classroom presentations and outdoor stream walks.

The first annual Geronimo and Alligator Creeks Cleanup Event is scheduled for Saturday April 6th, from 9am to 12 noon. Participants will meet at the Navarro High School parking lot and the New Braunfels Airport parking lot at 9am to receive instructions, supplies, and a light breakfast. From there, crews will leave to remove trash from public road crossings and other areas identified for trash pickup in the Geronimo and Alligator Creeks area.
People wanting to participate in the event are asked to register before March 23, if possible. Participants need to contact Ward Ling to register for the event by calling 979-845-6980 or emailing .
