Students will discover solutions to engineering challenges by exploring the process of design through two hands-on activities chosen to simulate real-world, engineered robots.
Mechanical Engineering faculty and student mentors will work one-on-one with students to design, build, test, iterate, and demonstrate 1) an Arduino-controlled robot that represents a simplified version of real-world autonomous vehicles and 2) a remote-controlled underwater robot that represents a simplified version of real-world remotely operated vehicles (ROV). Students will be able to use 3D printers to build personalized elements of their designs.
Students will develop critical thinking, time-management, and problem-solving skills while practicing the design process. Each day includes an icebreaker, two lessons, two activities, two social opportunities to connect with fellow students, lunch, and a debriefing.
