The Quill 1-21-22
Creating Opportunities Together
A Thought or Two from Mr. Nieslanik
We have arrived at the end of semester one, in this craziest of crazy school years. Is this year what I envisioned it would be, no. I never envisioned in the fall that we would be at this point in the ongoing Pandemic. But, here we are. As we close in on Opportunity Week (formally known as Finals Week) I ask for your support. Please make sure that your child has all of their work turned in, is caught up in all of their classes, and is wrapping up this semester strong. It is critical that we don't go forward into semester two with many, if any, Incompletes or No grades.
As of this edition of The Quill, we are averaging 10-15% staff absences per day and roughly 25% student absences. These absences are not all positive COVID cases. Many students are staying out of school to protect their health, to better protect their family's health, or to be as safe as possible. We fully understand if a student needs to miss class, all we ask is that they check Canvas and stay caught up in work. This is a rough time of the semester to miss a lot of school and stay not connected to learning. I also hear from parents that our COVID Dashboard is not updated, do know that our BSD nurses team is working as fast as they can to keep the Dashboard as updated as possible.
As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to me at David_Nieslanik@beaverton.k12.or.us, and I thank you for continuing to partner with us.
Be well,
DN
Important COVID News
- We no longer will be sending a message for a positive COVID case at SRHS, but we will be posting on our Parentsquare site.
- BSD is no longer contact tracing all students in close contact in classrooms, but will continue to contact trace students who may have been in contact during lunchtime, athletics, PE, and the performing arts.
- SRHS does have the ability to conduct a COVID test, and these are available in an as-needed basis.
- For the month of January, to be evaluated at the beginning of February, we are limiting access to athletic events to four tickets per athlete.
- We continue to expect students to wear their masks appropriately, and we have masks available in different locations throughout the building.
