Week of Undergraduate Excellence

The Week of Undergraduate Excellence seeks to highlight and celebrate undergraduate excellence and accomplishments in research, scholarship, and creative work from across the University. All undergraduate students are invited and encouraged to present academic/creative work throughout the week-long celebration and to attend events that showcase student excellence.

Virtual Poster Presentation

Students will have the opportunity to present their work in a virtual poster session during the 2024 Week of Undergraduate Excellence. Students who are accepted for presentation will be expected to provide a poster, an abstract, and a video of themselves summarizing their work to be displayed during an asynchronous poster session available throughout the week. Students will be expected to reply to comments and questions about their work during the Week of Undergraduate Excellence.

Each student presentation must be sponsored by a faculty mentor. If students wish to present scholarly work that has been conducted during an off-campus experience and their mentor is from a different institution, the student should identify a Drexel faculty member to co-sponsor and support the presentation.

Abstract Submission

Abstract submission is now open. The abstract submission deadline is Monday, April 8 at 12:00pm (noon) EST. Deadline extended to Monday, April 22 at 12:00pm (noon).

  • Each abstract should provide a general 200-word summary of the research, including a thesis and 1-2 references. The abstract should reflect the professional format associated with scholarly work in that specific discipline.
  • Only one submission will be considered for each individual listed as first author.
  • The submission form will require that students submit an abstract and a letter of support from their mentor.

Quick Pitch Competition

We are excited to bring back the Quick Pitch Competition for the 2024 Week of Undergraduate Excellence! The Quick Pitch Competition gives Drexel students the opportunity to distill their research, creative work, community engagement, or academic global experiences into a three-minute, one-slide explanation to a general audience.

Presentation themes:

  • Research & Creative Work: Curricular or extracurricular work involving the exploration and creation of new knowledge.
  • Community Engagement: Curricular or extracurricular activities working collaboratively with off-campus local or global communities, highlighting the development of partnerships with these communities.
  • Academic Global Experiences: Study abroad, intensive courses abroad, and international fellowship or co-op experiences.

Note: All presentations, regardless of theme, should identify a problem or question and methodology for exploring this problem or question.

Up to 10 students will participate in a preliminary session based on the topic of their presentation during the Week of Undergraduate Excellence. Students will have three minutes to present a single slide on their work. A panel of judges will evaluate each presentation and three winners will be selected from each theme. Winners of each theme will win a small prize:

  • First place: $500
  • Second place: $300
  • Third place: $200

The three winners from each theme will compete in the Quick Pitch Finals at the end of the week, where a final winner will be selected and earn a grand prize of $2,000.

Prize money will be distributed to winners as a financial aid award in their Drexel accounts.

Presentation proposal submissions are due by  Monday, April 8 at 12:00pm (noon) EST. Deadline extended to Monday, April 22 at 12:00pm (noon).
