The University requests that any employee, student, visitor or vendor who tests positive for COVID-19, is experiencing symptoms they believe are related to COVID-19, or becomes aware that they may have been in close contact with someone who either has tested positive for or is suspected to have COVID-19 report the positive result, symptoms or exposure using the CSUF COVID-19 Self Reporting Form. CSUF’s COVID-19 Response Team reviews the incident report and provides guidance concerning self-isolation, self-quarantine, testing or return to work requirements.

Case Notifications

The University provides notifications of close contacts and possible exposures to keep our campus community informed and to comply with applicable state regulations.

Detailed below is the process for how notifications are shared to keep our campus community safe.

Confirming COVID-19 Cases

When the University learns of a probable or confirmed case at any CSUF location, the COVID-19 Response Team contacts the individual and those identified as close contacts. The COVID-19 Response Team learns more about symptom onset or test date and provides public health guidance for isolation, quarantine, and testing. For employees, MPP supervisors are notified and given information on required time away from campus if applicable.

Testing

If you want to get a COVID-19 test, visit the “Testing & Vaccination” tile for information concerning eligibility and how to obtain a free COVID-19 self-test.

COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine FAQ’s

We know there are questions about COVID-19 protocols and when to report, self-isolate and/or self-quarantine.  Please see the following FAQs to help you understand the current protocol so we can have a healthy and successful fall together.

If I have tested positive for COVID-19, am experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 and suspect that I have COVID-19, or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, how do I report?

To report the positive result, symptoms or exposure, please use the CSUF COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form. CSUF’s COVID-19 Response Team reviews the incident report and provides official guidance concerning self-isolation, self-quarantine, testing, or return to work requirements.

I have tested positive for COVID-19. How long do I have to self-isolate?

If you are experiencing symptoms, you must self-isolate for, at least, 24 hours. A member of the university’s COVID-19 Response Team will review with you the circumstances necessary to end your self-isolation.

I am symptomatic and suspect I have COVID-19. Do I have to self-isolate?

You must wear a mask and test immediately. Whether you need to continue to self-isolate depends on your initial test results and other factors. A member of the university’s COVID-19 Response Team will review with you the circumstances necessary to determine when you may return to work.

I have been identified as a close contact. Do I need to self-quarantine?

You do not have to self-quarantine initially. To continue working on campus depends, in part, on whether you are experiencing symptoms and your COVID-19 test results. A member of the university’s COVID-19 Response Team will review with you the circumstances necessary to determine whether you can remain on campus.

I may have been exposed to a COVID-19 positive case but not as a close contact. Do I need to self-quarantine?

No. Monitor daily for symptoms related to COVID-19. Information about COVID-19 positive cases on campus is updated daily on the university’s COVID-19 dashboard.

How were the employee COVID-19 isolation and quarantine protocols established?

Our isolation and quarantine protocols were established by California Department Public Health (CDPH). CDPH guidance changes as conditions change. These FAQs are designed to give our community an overview of the current protocol. These should not be used to guide decisions. Instead, employees who have tested positive, a recent exposure, or suspect they have COVID-19 should use the CSUF COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form so contact tracers can provide specific guidance to them directly.
