The Rural Sociology Graduate Association (RSGA) at Penn State will be hosting their 8th Annual Rural Studies Student Conference this fall! This year’s conference, “Inequality and Inequity in Rural Society,” will take place completely virtually on Friday, October 22, 2021, with a pre-conference speaker on the afternoon of Thursday, October 21.
Contemporary rural sociology transcends traditional spatial boundaries and encourages scholars to explore the intersections of people, communities, their environment, and the global systems that affect their existence. While many studies strive to address intersections between people, communities, and social issues, many budding scholars struggle with undertaking such ambitious research areas and are left with the concern of how their findings might benefit those outside the Ivory Tower. This year’s conference theme challenges us to question what it means to study “inequality and inequity” in rural and urban areas of the United States, the Global South, and beyond, through qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches.
