Pledge of Commitment to End Workplace Harassment

OUR COMMITMENT TO END
WORKPLACE HARASSMENT

Women of the Vine & Spirits (WOTVS) is built on a foundation of respect, integrity, equality and trust. We understand that harassment comes in many forms; sexual and physical, bullying, job shaming, verbal threats, derogatory comments, and microaggressions, among others.

As stated by Founder & CEO, Deborah Brenner in her letter to our members, this pledge is one of the important steps we are committed to taking to further create and foster a work environment in the alcohol beverage industry where all women and men can thrive no matter their gender, race, or sexual orientation.

We have received 1,000+ pledges from supporters around the globe in countries including Australia, Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States. We are encouraged to see the number of signatories continue to rise.

In addition to this pledge, WOTVS is committed to educating our members on awareness and prevention strategies on all forms of workplace harassment through our online Resource LibraryGroups and professional-led live trainings.

Why the Alcohol Beverage Industry is Committing to this Pledge:

"The world needs to see, hear and experience true support for all!! Therefore, my signature is my full support to pledge, learn from this and pass it on." - Wendy, Oregon

“Growing up in a single parent family I saw firsthand the difficulties my mother faced due to sexism. I would like to ensure future generations can thrive regardless of their gender.” - Toby, United Kingdom

"As a woman and especially an African American Woman, I am committed to ensuring my fellow female colleagues work in environments that are welcoming and support our success." - Stephanie, Florida

“I would imagine nearly every woman signing this has at some point in their beverage career felt intimidated, harassed and/or undervalued as a woman. Understanding my own biases and having the confidence to use my voice to not tolerate that behavior is my commitment.”
- Bridget, Arizona

“I have seen the personal devastating effects of work place harassment on people, some very close to me. I'm doing my best to ensure that the companies where my children will join, will be environments where they will thrive. Teams that are as demanding as stretching, but ALWAYS respectful of their own individuality in the broadest sense. I promote diversity based around an important concept, a transparent and fair meritocracy.” - Miguel, Spain

“Harassment of any sort has no place in our industry and has gone unchecked by many for too long. We need to be better and this is a start.” - Amy, Ohio

"Everyone has a story. And everyone deserves to be treated fairly despite the nuances of their story. It is my pledge to work WITH, not against, those who may need fluctuations in their schedules due to being a working parent or simply overly understanding when it comes to the dynamics of family and the workplace. It shouldn’t have to be a choice to be good at one or the other. You can be great at both as long as you’re allowed some reasonable leeway. As a Manager, I will always maintain that level of courtesy and respect to my team!" - Julie, Florida

“Every individual should be able to live and work free from the worry that they will be discriminated against in any way, including harassment, regardless of their gender, race, beliefs, age, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic. Having grown up in an era where sexual harassment in the workplace was common and the pervading attitude was all too often to 'put up and shut up', it will be an important legacy for our generation if workplaces in all industries and countries can be transformed into safe spaces with zero tolerance for bigoted behavior and abuses of power, with effective and fair mechanisms for speaking out and ensuring accountability.”
 - Liz, United Kingdom

“I am committing to WOTVS's pledge to show that I boldly and fearlessly stand behind ending workplace harassment. Life is too short to have others infringe on your true entitlement simply as a human being to live a safe and creative existence.” Dawna, California
